WampServer

hi,
new to wamp and php, trying to use phpMyAdmin with localhost but returns the error:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

i think this is because MySQL is not running, only apache is, yet when i try to start/resume MySQL it starts for about 3 seconds and returns to just apache running

i have norton systemworks 2006 installed which i understand may be effecting things, i've tried adding programs to the allowed list but still doing the same thing.

I've got the same problem if you find out before me let me know and vice versa
