Wampserver installation help

I have installed Wampserver having installed the various Visual C++ bits and pieces as instructed. When I double click on the Wampserver icon it loads and runs yielding a green icon.

My problem arises when I go to phpMyAdmin. As advised I use root as the username and I leave the password field empty. When I click on Go I expect to gain access to the Admin page but instead the username/password page is still displayed with root having disappeared from the username field.

I guess I have done something wrong but having followed the comprehensive trouble shooting advice as best I can I have made no progress.

I would really appreciate it if someone can help point out the error of my ways.

Thanks

Bob

Are you sure you are using `root` all lower case letters

Yes 100% sure. If I enter anything but root the response is:

Cannot log in to MySQL Server

I don't know if the following might reveal anything:

When I initially access phpMyAdmin I am directed as follows:

[localhost]

After entering root as the username I am directed to:

[localhost]

but I continue to see the username/login page as before

Sadly the extended URL was truncated in my last post which won't help at all.

I'm hoping these are what you are asking for:

1. W7U/64
2. Wampserver 3 x64
3. Apache 2.4.17
4. PHP 5.6.16_php 7.0.0
5. MySQL 5.7.9
6. Green
7. Windows/System32\drivers - is not listed. Yes I have checked "Show hidden files, folders & drives" and have unchecked "Hide protected operating system files" under Folder Options.
8.Yes
9. Only the login page
10. Not aware of error messages
11. MSE
12. C:\Wamp64

See this post WAMPServer 3 All you need to know

Install this update to get WAMPServer to V3.0.3 [sourceforge.net]

Then install the phpMyAdmin ADDON to get it to V4.5.2 [sourceforge.net]

If you are using PHP7 then the phpMyAdmin upgrade is required if I remember correctly

Thanks. I am now at Wampserver V3.0.3 with phpMyAdmin at V4.5.2

Sadly this has made no difference to behaviour at the login screen.

Much thanks for your help so far.

The notes with Wampserver 3.0.3 advised installation of vcredist_x86 & vcredist_x64 2015

I downloaded and installed both updates then rebooted as advised.

On launching Wampserver I now see the icon in orange. Apparently only 1 of 2 services now runs.

Apparently MySQL runs whereas Apache no longer does.

Back now to a green. Skype started up following the reboot and I omitted to exit. Now exited Skype and on running Wampserver I get a green icon.

No change in behaviour on the phpMyAdmin login page unfortunately.

Ok,

I have no idea what could be wrong here, but I think a Team Viewer sesssion could solve this.

If we can connect via Team Viewer and I can have a look at what is really going on on your PC I think between us we can sort this out.

If this is acceptable to you. I am in the GMT timezone and am normally available between 09:30 and 22:00 GMT

Install Team Viewer and then send me a private message suggesting a time when you will be available for at about an hour.

I will reply, telling you if I can be available at that time.

When we agree a time, start Team Viewer, and then send me the Team Viewer ID and Password, again as a Private Message, just before that time and we will see if we cannot solve this together.

I will not be available untill Tuesday 23rd Feb

Regards
RiggsFolly

Solution:

Turns out there was nothing wrong with WAMPServer.

Somehow IE security had been set to Custom mode and that was causing the issues.

All other browsers were working fine.

Always test odd issues that happen on any webserver with more than one browser!
