Install did not install Apache Service

I've installed wampserver. Can't get it to work just yet. My system tray says 1 of 2 services running. When I pull up the Menus. Apache is not checked and I have no access to the start service/stop service icons. In addition when I try to click on the install service Icon nothing happens.

Any Ideas about where to go from here?

Aparently Skype is the culprit, or it was in my case. Once I shut down Skype I was able to run the Apache install and then start the service. I think that once it's started you can enable Skype again, but I haven't tested this. Hope this helps someone.

I had the same problem. I shut down Skype, then tried to install and start Apache and it worked perfectly! How bizarre!

Maybe someone could shed some light on why this would happen?

Liam.

Yep, after checking this the solution worked. I don't know why, but if you install WAMP with Skype active, the Apache server isn't installed at all (I tried to start it manually but it wasn't in the list of services provided by Windows). Just be sure that Skype isn't active when you install WAMP, and yes, you MUST uninstall your old installation and then reinstall it if you want it to work.

Hope the author adress this problem.

I've had the same problem without Skype, but was installing over my old intallation (2nd HDD). Kow I might be stating the obvious but I just installed to a new directory and it's working fine. Either try a fresh dir or delete your old one. If that doesn't help, unlucky tongue sticking out smiley

I don't have skype either, but I am behind a firewall client at work so I'm not sure if thats the culprit for me.

I get this error when trying to start Apache manually from the wamp/apache2/bin/apache.exe file.

<OS 10048> Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port> is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

Anyone have any ideas what this means? It would be interesting to see what kind of errors other people are getting. I will try to find out more on the Apache site.

Luck all.

Had the same problem, i shut down skype, installed the service and then started apache and it works fine.

That was also the fault: <OS 10048> Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port> is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

What i think is that skype and apache maybe use something what only 1 program can use. So i guess there are more programs that use it, so look if any other program is running what can act as a server.

Hello,

I had the same problem. Never had Skype installed on my PC (XP SP2 ESP).
After an frustating hour of searching I decided to apply the frenetic solution.

First I uninstalled WAMP.
Then I installed Skype (Yes I did).
Started Skype registerd myself etc. Then desconnected and closed Skype.
After that I installed WAMP and abracadabra now it works.

I have no technical explaination.

Wish you luck

I had this problem but nothing above worked for me.
But I found a shortcut to solve this problem.
Go to your C:\wamp\apache directory and start apache.exe
Apache is now running but not as a Windows Service.
Hope this help.
