WampServer

I have installed the latest 32-bit Wampserver-3. I get this message in red at the bottom of the WAMPSERVER Home Page Server Configuration page when localhost starts:

*** ERROR *** The PHP configuration loaded file is: - should be: C:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.4.17/bin/php.ini or c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.6.15/phpforapache.ini

I am running on Win 7 32 bit Apache/2.4.17 (Win32) PHP/5.6.15

The WS icon is green. The error logs are empty. No MS events.

If I try to run PHPMYADMIN, it says the MBSTRING extension is missing. The dll is in the correct folder.

I can access the default index.php page from both local PCs and also over the internet and see the same error message in red at the bottom of the page.

Would appreciate any advice please.

Its an odd hiccup probably caused by starting WAMPServer not as Administrator, all you need to do is

Right-Click the wampmanager icon-> Refresh

To correct this problem:

We can do: "Right-Click the wampmanager icon-> Refresh"
but only for Wampserver 3.0.4 or more.

For Wampserver before 3.0.4, we can do:
Left-Click the Wampmanager icon -> Apache -> Version -> 2.4.17 (Click on 2.4.17)*
Left-Click the Wampmanager icon -> PHP -> Version -> 5.6.15 (Click on 5.6.15)*

* Note: One should not necessarily have the Apache versions 2.4.17 and PHP 5.6.15. Just validate current versions.

It worked!!
I have WS 3.0.0 so REFRESH alone didn't fix it.
I then performed the incantations that you suggested.
It fixed the problem!!
But what was I doing?
I would really appreciate an explanation of how that fixed whatever was wrong??
I would much prefer a clean out-of-the-box installation.
Methinks I'll delete everything and start over again with a new new download.

In that case install WAMPServer 3.0.4 and not 3.0.0

There is only one 32 bit version available and that's the one I used. It's 3.0.0
I avoided 2.5.

Incorrect

Download from here and the default download will give you WAMPServer 3.0.4

It happens only in very rare cases, the symbolic links to the PHP files are not created, even by installing as administrator.
Unfortunately, I do not know why. Therefore with Wampserver 3.0.4, "Refresh" creates the missing symbolic links.

I assumed the latest and best would be on www.wampserver.com !!

Not to beat this to death but I have both .exe files downloaded today.
The sourceforge one is 3.0.4
The wampserver.com one is 3.0.0 (or at least, it says it is!!)
Am I missing something?

Wampserver.com is always one war behind. It is very difficult (and very long) to change the home page so that it actually does not point to the last version 3.0.4.
The site always updated (within one minute and long before sourceforge) is my secondary deposit.
