wamp5_1.6.0 - Apache2

Hello and thanks for your support,

I have run wamp5_1.6.0, and installed it successfully, however, I still can't test locally as only 1 service will run, apache2 does not seem to be active. I have tried restarting it etc to no avail and reinstalled it many times including version wamp5_1.6.1

Have tried everything I know but just can't figure out what to try next.
Would really appreciate any help.
Thank you,

Peter

Is there something in the apache logs?
Is the wamapache service installed?
If not, what happens when you open a dos windows, go to c:\wamp and launch install_services.bat?

Thank you,

Have a look at your httpd.conf file and see what is wrong on this line.

changed it:

What an idiot..
Yes I did have IIS running during install.
I un-installed,
disabled IIS,
then installed wamp5..

All works fine.
Great advice, I really appreciate it.

no need to disable IIS while installing, unless you are running the server after installing directly... the most important thing is that you disable IIS when starting Apache it self ( not installing ).. after installation, there's an option to start WAMP.. you can disable IIS at this point or you can choose not to start WAMP

Ragnar...
-Right-click on 'My computer' and choose Manage
-From the left panel choose 'Services and Application' then 'Services'
-From right, find the IIS ( I forget what it called may be Internet Information Services or other similar thing ) and right-click it then choose stop...

to start it again... no guessing... the same steps just choose start rather than stop in the last step...

------------------------

any way... I worked on a way at work to run both servers... just i set another port for IIS so it uses [localhost]:{porthere} rather than [localhost]
and ofcource making IIS start manully and start it later ( IIS does NOT have any problem when starting with Apache already started.. but Apache DOES )

Below is the error message that is given whenever I attempt to install the apache service. I'm guessing that IIS is still somehow still bound to port 80. But I don't know where the ports listing would be in the registry. Can anyone help?

"C:\wamp>.\apache2\bin\apache.exe -k install -n wampapache

PS... I completely removed IIS.... thinking that it was interfering... and since I hate click me stupid... and i'd rather code PHP than .NET any day, I just uninstalled it. Now I can't change the port its using. But prior to uninstalling I changed the port to 8080, but I didn't start the server so it may not have registered the change. Anyone know where I can find that in the registry?

Aparently Skype is the culprit. Once I shut down Skype (didn't uninstall) I was able to run Apache install service and then start the service as normal. I think once thats done you can restart Skype though I haven't tested that yet. Hope this helps someone.

Yes, Sozu Dev Marcel was right. Skype was the culprit. As long as Skype doesn't try to start before Apache, then all is well in the neighborhood. Thanks Sozu, bless up. This should probably be added to a list somewhere. I'm fairly certain that we have discovered and backed up our claims significantly for it to be in an FAQ or something.

I'd just like to add - Dont run WAMP on a PC that may be your Primary PC.

At least go and buy an old Celeron machine for $20 and run that box as your WAMP machine. Put an FTP server on it. Filezilla works great!
You'll also find you have less problems with applications all fighting for Port 80.

Web/File servers should run the minimum of applications.

In my case it was a matter of development testing, because I don't have a standalone testing machine yet. Though I have plenty of PIIs and whatnot sitting around waiting to be webservers/db servers, and whatnot. Actually I'm really just waiting to get a business cable line... :^( Darn Verizon and their port 80 block!

Well the main problem looks to be that the httpd.conf has it self copied 3 times in it.

I installed all these server products myself but could not get phpmyadmin to config right. While looking for the answer to my config problem i found a link to this site. I installed wamp5 and it worked like a charm. Brilliant package! I'll deninatly be back for further distros.
