Apache Fails to load after editing httpd.conf

Everytime i modify something in the Apache2 httpd.conf file, and start/restart Apache2, it fails to load. When i change whatever i changed back to what it was, Apache loads without any problems. Any idea on why this happens, and how i can get it to work?
I'm trying to make Apache load PHP4 instead of PHP5, since my scripts dont work properly with PHP5.

This means your changes are wrong. See your log file.
