I've received a copy of a Wordpress production website's database and files.

I run WAMP 2.5 in D:\wamp\www. I've performed the following:

Moved the website's file to D:\wamp\www\xyz
Edited the copy of the database.sql to replace www.xyz.com.au with localhost\xyz, and then imported this into a new database in phpmyadmin.
Edited D:\wamp\www\xyz\wp-config.php with the local database details.
When I load http:\\localhost\xyz in my browser, I receive a 404 generated by the website living @ http:\\localhost\abc

This website is stored in D:\wamp\www\abc

I don't understand why this abc website is intercepting the request for http:\\localhost\xyz...

Other than that, you will get better help on the issues involved in moving a wordpress sites from the WordPress website. Here, Moving WordPress

Read The Manuals Apache -- MySQL -- PHP -- phpMyAdmin
