Hi All,
Having enjoyed some months of trouble free WAMP useage ,I have encountered a problem trying to launch WAMPSERVER after the first reboot post WINDOWS KB3079904 security patch. The message looks like this ...

Aestan Tray Menu

The configuration file contains a syntax error on line 0:
[EparseError] No Tray Icon was specified. Please assign a tray icon
by usingone of the TrayIcon* directives in the [Config] section

Does anyone know of a simple (and I mean simple! ) solution as when I look at the windows update history I can see the path....but when I look at the current installed updates , KB3079904 does not appear , therefore it seems I cannot even uninstall the patch.

Help !

Many thanks - Dave

Hi David,

Well I too had that patch install yesterday and it has done no damage to my WAMPServer, so I dont think you can necessarily lay the blame at that door.

This error sounds like the wampmanager.tpl file has been badly amended or corrupted
Or
One or both of the images_off.bmp or images_on.bmp file(s) have been corrupted.

Have any of these files been chnaged intentionally or accidentally recently by you or maybe a Virus Checker?

If you have a recent backup of wampmanager.tpl and wampmanager.ini you could try restoring them from your backup.

Thank you, I think you are right. Wampserver.ini file corrupt but tpl file looks ok. Can you please advise if I can regenerate ini file from tpl file, and if so how. Copying tpl changes error but still won't launch wampserver. Many thanks Dave

Well the wampserver.ini file should get regenerated from wampserver.tpl everytime you start WAMPServer.

If that is not happening then you mau have a problem with wampserver.tpl

Hi,

I too had that patch (KB3079904) install on july 21, and it has done no damage to my WAMPServer.
I think there maybe is a problem with Visual C++ packages.

--- Redistributable packages Microsoft Visual C ++

Make sure you are "up to date" in the redistributable packages VC9, VC10, VC11, VC13 and VC14
Even if you think you are up to date, install each package as administrator and if message "Already installed", validate Repair.

The following packages (VC9, VC10, VC11) are imperatively required to Wampserver 2.4 and 2.5, even if you use only Apache and PHP versions VC11 and VC14 is required for PHP 7
VC13 Packages (While we're at it ... but it is not required.)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1; Windows 8; Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1; Windows Server 2012; Windows Vista Service Pack 2
The two files VSU4\vcredist_x86.exe and VSU4\vcredist_x64.exe to be download are on the same page:
Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013
VC14 Packages (While we're at it ... required for PHP 7)
Windows 10 Tech Preview , Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista Service Pack 2
The two files vcredist_x86.exe et vcredist_x64.exe to be download are on the same page:
Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2015 RC

If you have a 64-bit Windows, you must install both 32 and 64bit versions, even if you do not use Wampserver 64 bit.

Thanks a million guys, I just uninstalled / reinstalled at the end of the day as being stuck in an endless loop of things that may or may not have gone wrong is frustrating. The good news is that this seems to have run very cleanly and i do not appear top have "lost" anything. Thanks again for your help and time - Dave
