Hello all, I have installed the 64 bit package on my machine but I cannot access the phpMyAdmin. the returned error states.

MySQL said:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

Apache 2.49
Php 5.5.12
MySQL 5.6.17
Port 80 is being used by the above...
and I can access the Server Config page at index.php

Windows 7 Home 64bit (complete pain in the arse for the last five years - loads of errors and software issues when using new software - I dont know why - people at the OU also had problems with this version of windows. again I have no idea why or if this is the same reason)

As I said, I have no previous installs, I opened as Admin for the installation. the software opened up,
red > brown > green - click on phpMyAdmin and I get the error.

I used to use this before (some 2 years ago) but I cannot remember ever having this issue, I installed and jumped into a website design project.

Just tried another complete clean install. Deleted C:/wamp folder post deletion.

opened installer as administrator followed normal installation. Run software, Red > Brown > Green
left click icon, phpMyAdmin - same error 1045

Ok first check your hosts file c:\windows\system32\driver\etc\hosts has these entries Uncommented

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1    localhost

If this is the issue you would be able to get to phpMyAdmin using '127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin' but maybe not using 'localhost/phpmyadmin'

Also are you sure you dont have another MySQL runing from your previous use of WAMPServer? Or maybe a dodgy my.ini file somewhere in the C:\windows folders.

Also I woudl go for the 32bit WAMPServer 64bit PHP is still experimental ( the 64bit WAMPServer is really just for geeks )

My host file reads those lines as follows, so no problem if I interpret u correctly

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1 localhost #[IPv6]

How would I check if I had another MySQL running, the port 80 check reads its used by the WINAMPSERVER ie

Apache 2.49
Php 5.5.12
MySQL 5.6.17

...with the version numbers attached,

I do have verious programming software installed, netBeans, visualBasic etc - I've been doing loads of programming work via the Open University, they all work correctly.

My personal opinion of 64bit software is - u need your head looking at if you purchase a 64bit operating system, the problems encountered fit the scenario that 64bit software is considered a "Secondary Issue" by the programming community - this means the 32bit is priority and you end up with faulty software which matures beautifully just about the time it becomes obsolete. Ok so we get off topic,

Im going to uninstal this version and try the 32bit - I'll post back here results

Look in the services snapin

WindowKey+R
Keyin services.msc
Hit Ok

WAMPServer calls its services wampapache and wampmysqld or wampapache64 and wampmysqld64 if its 64bit WAMPServer

Normally the MySQL service gets called just plain old MYSQL. If you have a MYSQL service running, well I think you get the idea.

Isn't the 64bit faster?

Not particularly as far as the benchmarks I can find.

Have you seen any that suggest it is faster? I am interested. I still use 32bit Windows 7 as I had some old periferals and I was not sure they would work on 64bit and I didnt have the time to waste sucking it to see.

Well thats interesting..

I loaded the services.msi and located the wampapache and wampmysqld - they are both present and running. Looking at the list it also shows wampapache64 and wampmysqld64 are also present but not running.
As I have now uninstalled the 64 bit version it failed to uninstall the services. Do you think this could be the issue ? I wouldnt have thought so being as they are not running however it does seem to me that the previous 64bit installer should have deleted these entries.....?

hmmm

ok so now I have the 32bit version installed, up and running and still giving me the same error when I try to access the phpMyAdmin page.

Another observation - looking at the Apache Modules list I have some ticked, some not ticked and some showing a WARNING triangle - Are the warning triangles some sort of clue here?

auth_form_module
cache_socache_module
macro_module
proxy_wstunnel_module
...are all showing warning triangle

As I have not ever used the 64bit I cannot be sure if they normally uninstall properly

But to uninstall them manually yo can do this from a command prompt started using "Run as Administrator"

sc delete wampapache64
sc delete wammysqld64

Ignore the warning triangles for now.

Maybe this would be quicker to solve if we have a teamviewer session so I can see what is actually going on here.

OK its too late tonight, I will be around tomorrow, after 10:00 UK time.

Send me a Private Message containing the TV ID and PASSWORD so I can connect.
Leave TV running as it will change the password each time you restart it.

I will connect and we can se what we can do about this.
