Basic Startup Problem

I installed the Wamp server. When I try to access the localhost, it doesn't work.

At first the page returned a 404 error.

I tried restarting the computer.

Now it just says the page cannot be displayed.

I tried typing in the ip 127.0.0.1, but I get the same response.

I am certain that it is probably a simple problem, but I am new to all of this. Any advise?

more info:
Wamp is set to start up on System Bootup.
I set the default browser to IE.
Wamp5 says that all of the services are running
I am using Wamp 1.5.0

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Never Mind, I think I figured it out. Norton was messing it up. Sorry to bother.

WAMPSERVER offline

Hi,

I am sure that this is a problem that has been over come in the past but I am struggling to get anything working.

I am using windows 7 and I have downloaded and installed WampServer 2.1d and turned off my Panda firewall and used the localhost setting during installation.

Hovering the mouse over Wamp in the task bar and it shows offline and when I double click on Wamp on the desktop and click yes on allowing the program access, the program doesn't start..

I have no idea how to get it started and any help wish this would really be beneficial as I am doing a php and mysql course.

Many thanks

I also am having trouble starting up wamp. The icon will never switch from orange to green. I have a fresh install of window 7 ultimate. Skype is not open. The only things in the system tray are outlook and dropbox. This is my mysql log... the other logs are blank. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I am having a problem that I see is popular:
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.

I'm Using Windows 7, IIS is not running, neither is Skype, the host
file shows
127.0.0.1 localhost
and the ::1 line is commented out:
# ::1 localhost

wampserver > start all services
icon goes orange.
apache > service > test port 80
reply is "port 80 is not actually used."
apache > service > install service : reply is,
Your port 80 is available. Install will proceed. Press enter. (I did.)
apache > service > start or resume service
Aestan Tray Menu popup says:
Could not execute menu item (internal error)
[Exception] Could not perform service action:
The system cannot find the file specified.
I have downloaded wamp freshly several times, rebooted, gone through this
following suggestions in the forum, nothing works.

What is the menu item that could not be executed?
What is the file that cannot be found?
I am not an expert at this and need help from the experts, please.

you are missing the vc++ 2010

read the first post..

if you have installed it - then the service is stuck half installed.

try using remove service first.

Wow, that's all it took? Amazing! I have been knocking my head against this all day, and Steve gives me a clue (remove service first) and that solves everything! even though I don't know what "you are missing the vc++ 2010 ) meant in the answer. But now the wampserver is green and I am so happy for this HELP! Thanks Steve.
