phpmyadmin acting funny

this may be related to phpmyadmin not wamp but ever since I have installed 2.0i phpmyadmin has been acting oddly. phpmyadmin shows random characters like "�H��$�". These characters appear before the html tags and the doctype so they are the first thing that appear on the page. I have to constantly refresh phpmyadmin to display the most recent data and sometimes I have to refresh the page more than once for the data to appear. This appears both in FF and IE, does anyone know what is happening?

delete the junk from the top of this file

there is no "junk" at the top of that file
