Firefox - Wamp Server Problem, I've tried most everything

I am new to Wamp Server and am getting the infamous

'Unable to Connect, Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost' error message in Firefox.

I have windows XP SP3, 2 Gig Ram, Firefox 3.5, and no other servers to my knowledge.

I have Adobe CS4, and an online tutorial directed me to install Wamp Server so I could view my webpage locally.

I have

a yellow Wamp Server icon;

disabled iis;

listened to port 80 and found nothing using it;

checked the hosts file to make sure "127.0.0.1 localhost" appears and nothing else;

tried "[127.0.0.1]; as well as "[127.0.0.1];

disabled my firewall and anti virus (both iolo), reinstalled Wamp Server and specifically given Wamp Server full explicit permissions to access the internet (should that matter for the localhost).

I think that's everything I could find on the forum concerning the above error.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
-Dave

In "tried "[127.0.0.1]; as well as "[127.0.0.1]; " my info got compressed to an IP.

If this works correctly, should read,

"tried "http:\\c:\index.php"; as well as "http:\\c:\wamp\www\index.php; " "

that I read about in a post that I cannot now locate.

Thanks
