Your port 80 is not actually used

Yesterday I installed WAMP, and it was working very normally, but tonight when I wanted to start WAMP it did not work. When I tested Apache I found this message "Your port 80 is not actually used"

Then one of the services has not started, either wampapache or wampmysql.

Check the 'apache error log' and Windows Event Viewer for error messages. It sounds like Apache has not started for some reason.

Either you made a chnage to httpd.conf that it does not like or possibly an update to your firewall may have removed Apache from the exception list.

Are you accessing the server using 'http://localhost' in the browsers address bar?

Finding out which service has not started.

left click the wampmanager icon in the system tray -> Apache ->Service
If start service is green and clickable then Apache has not started

left click the wampmanager icon in the system tray -> MySQL ->Service
If start service is green and clickable then MysQL has not started

Which service is not started??

Look in the Windows Event log.

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer

Look under 'Windows Logs -> Applications' for messages from Apache.

What are the errors?

Is there a C:\wamp\alias folder and if so whats in it.

there should be 3 .conf files in there.

It was Wordpress configuration file ( I edited it) that caused the problem. Thank you for your effort

Hi. My event Viewer log said this:
The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 173 of C:/wamp/bin/apache/Apache2.4.4/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.4.15/php5apache2_4.dll into server: The specified module could not be found.
So I copied the dll from php5.4.16 folder and put it in the right place. The service started and turned green.
My question: if 5.4.15 can work with apache2.4.4, why 5.4.16 and 5.5.0 and 6.0.dev are not compatible (as the menu says)? What could be missing?

It will most likely be that the apache and php are compiled with different versions of the MSVC++ compiler.
As Apache launches the php interpreter as a dll and therefore part of itself, they have to be compiler compatible.

PS.

You said:

So I copied the dll from php5.4.16 folder and put it in the right place.

What you did there was copy PHP5.4.16 interpreter into a PHP5.4.15 directory.
Check what the WAMP Homepage reports as the version of PHP or click the phpinfo() link for more info

Server Configuration
Apache Version :
2.4.4
PHP Version :
5.4.15

So why 5.4.16, having the same dll interpreter in it's folder, has a triangle saying that's not compatible with apache 2.4.4?
Was my question so not clear? smiling smiley

And why phpinfo() says it's a php 5.4.3 version (previously used one) and wamp index says as above... 5.4.15?
What files have all these wrong infos? wampmanager.ini, tpl, conf, phpforApache?
[php]
phpVersion = "5.4.15"
phpLastKnown = 5.4.3
phpIniDir = "."
phpConfFile = "php.ini"
phpExeDir = "."

[phpCli]
phpCliVersion = 5.2.13
phpExeFile = php.exe
phpCliFile = php-win.exe

[apache]
apacheVersion = "2.4.4"
apacheLastKnown = 2.2.11
apacheExeDir = "bin"
apacheConfDir = "conf"
apacheExeFile = "httpd.exe"
apacheConfFile = "httpd.conf"
apacheServiceInstallParams = "-n wampapache -k install"
apacheServiceRemoveParams = "-n wampapache -k uninstall"

[mysql]
mysqlVersion = "5.5.32"
mysqlLastKnown = 5.1.41
mysqlConfDir = "."
mysqlConfFile = "my.ini"
mysqlExeDir = "bin"
mysqlExeFile = "mysqld.exe"
mysqlServiceInstallParams = "--install-manual wampmysqld"
mysqlServiceRemoveParams = "--remove wampmysqld"

Why is phpCli set to 5.2.13? (wampmanager.ini get all the languages and extensions from that version! why???)

Can i ask where you are getting these versions of PHP from? They are not available as addons from Wampservers Sourceforge.

CLI:

Normally with WAMP the CLI is fixed. This is because most of the menu options run a php script and WAMP needs to know you are not going to load an old php that will break its own internal functionality.

I create a .cmd file that adds whatever version of php to the path so I can run my CLI scripts against whatever version of PHP that i want. Just run the phppath.cmd before executing any cli script.

eg

phppath.cmd

PATH=%PATH%;c:\wamp\bin\php\phpx.y.z
php -v

As you taught us a few years ago, I get desired versions from the official php.net and mysql.com either as sources or win installers (for the second, I install it in program files, copy the according folders into the wmp path, add wampmanager file and required txt file accordingly, then I uninstall the win php). Many of them worked without any issues (same for phpmyadmin).
But I always wondered about the non-compatible reasons, which you explained above. Thanks.

As for the cli, I really don't get it. Can you send me a sample cmd file? Or post it somewhere?
Sometimes I go through the bin folder and remove some old versions for space reasons. Fortunately, I never thought of removing 5.2.13 as it is a stable version. But what if I did? The menu stopped working? That's good to know for everyone, I guess.

Again, what I don't understand is, if php5apache2_4.dll is the only one that makes it compatible or not with an apache version, why 5.4.15 and 5.4.16 are treated differently by the wamp server from the compatibility point of view, as the dll is the same file copied in both mentioned folders? It should be another reason too, isn't it?

Thanks for your time and apologies for the delay, I was very busy.

Remember I mentioned I run php 5.4.15, as the wampmanager identifies it above and mentioned on the index page?
Well, in phpmyadmin, I found this:
Web server
Apache/2.4.4 (Win32) PHP/5.4.16
Database client version: libmysql - mysqlnd 5.0.10 - 20111026 - $Id: b0b3b15c693b7f6aeb3aa66b646fee339f175e39 $
PHP extension: mysqli
Can we say that phpmyadmin recognize the correct dll version, while wamp recognizes the correct php version as a whole?
