I've been running WAMP on Windows 7 just fine for many years. I just upgraded to Windows 8 (from 7) and immediately installed the preview release of 8.1. I did not worry about configuring WAMP to work on Windows 8 as I was upgrading.
The issue is that the WAMP icon in the system tray stays red and appears to be offline (although hovering over the icon reveals 'WAMPSERVER - Server Online'). Opening any of my websites results in the expected website cannot be found error.
I'm running WAMP version 2.2E 32 bits.
What I've done:
1. Disabled WWW Publishing service
2. Validated that nothing is listening on port 80
3. Verified that hosts file has ::1 line commented out
4. "ping -4 localhost" returns 127.0.0.1 (although 'ping localhost' returns ::1)
5. Pinging my virtual hosts (i.e., localhost-domain.com) also returns correct 127.0.0.1
6. Flushed DNS cache
7. Restarted
8. Configured Skype to not run on 80/443 and even exited the program
9. Configured the httpd.conf fix (comment out 'Listen 80' add 'Listen 0.0.0.0:80')
I could not find any log file that was updated in the time that I upgraded nor did I find anything in the Windows Eventlog.
I've seen very few threads on getting WAMP to work in Windows 8.1. Any help to get this working is greatly appreciated.
