PHP code keeps showing on the browser

Hello guys. I've installed/reinstalled wamp multiple times and I can't seem to solve this problem. At the first run, wamp will run the php of the index.php( <?php echo "hello world"; ?>
file I made in a folder I made in the wamp folder. Then when I create a new one, declare a variable, echo it on the screen, it doesn't work, and the browser flashes my code on the screen. Does anybody here have a fix? Thanks a lot!

You need to open the file in local host
