MySQL install failure

Hi,
I've spent two days working through the messages here, but without any of the responses solving my installation problem. Looks like a great forum, so I really hope someone can help.

My setup: Win Vista, Firefox 18.01.
Intalled wampserver 2.2.

Following installation, I get an orange wamp icon. I can access the localhost opening screen.
but
1. the wamp icon never turns green
2. clicking on phpmyadmin gives me "#2002 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."
3. testmysql.php gives me "Could not connect to MySQL: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: No such host is known. "
4. I've checked the Win services.msc, and have tried to start wampmysqld, but this gives:
Error #1067 the process terminated unexpectedly
5. I've checked my hard disk for my.ini and see only the one in the wamp subfolder.
6. ... checked host = localhost, user = root, password = none
7. ... checked the hosts file to ensure 127.0.0.1 localhost appears only once
8. ... changed port 80 to 0.0.0.0.80
9. ... checked my Webroot AV s/w and found port 80 is allowed, apache is allowed, but can't see any other entries relating to wamp.
10. ... started pulling my hair out.

Can anyone help get me up and running? Thx v much in advance.

Hi,

Try doing a search for a file called my.ini and/or my.cnf

If you find any that are not in the c:\wamp folder structure then delete them.

Its usually in the c:\windows folder tree somewhere but dont limit your searching to just that folder.

Hi RiggsFolly,
Many thanks for your quick reply.

Your suggestion solved the problem. I'd searched for my.ini, but not my.cnf. On removing my.cnf from c:/ the installation worked fine.

Thanks a million.

... now, on to the next issue....
