Update on connection problem. I followed through the instructions on the link: including set-up of the password login front screen. Thanks c2Dan I had moved the files to the www directory and already set up in phpmyadmin the dbase and dbase user more or less the same as when it was installed on the remote hosting system I manage. I have installed WAMP on a local laptop - phpmyadmin starts up OK and I can add databases and users and all services have sucessfully started up.
