this is totally bizarre !!!!!!!!! after trying 20 different ways to change the password though the command console and getting a different syntax error EVERY time I "Googled" --> [[ set password syntax MySQL ]] and guess what I learned? new installs for My SQL has NO PASSWORD for root access ! Guess what = logged in as Root and left the password field empty and I got in! now why

I just changed $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'http'; // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)? from "config" to "http" now, I get a pop-up box asking for my name/pwd so . . . some progress but when I fill in the prompts I am denied so. my guess is the username and pwd is stored somewhere else?
