WampServer

Why does WAMP require the use of php while starting a PHP script. For example, this works: <?php echo "Test"; ?> But this does not: <? echo "Test"; ?> I have installed WAMP manually before (as individual components) and this worked fine. I could not find any resource on google or this site to answer this, please help. Thanks for your time, Oz
