I found the solution. And it seems to be a fairly common problem among people who install wordpress with wamp. For the benefit of other newbies, here is the solution that worked for me:

Actually, as this is almost certainly a wordpress problem, I probably should have asked my question in a wordpress forum. I want to experiment a bit with ,y wordpress settings first to see what I can find out. Thanks, Bob

I'm not sure I understand your question. On the remote server I have installed wordpress in the directory mydomain.com/_donors. (There is another wordpress installation in mydomain.com.) But the one in mydomain.com/_donors is the one I want to work on locally. -Bob

I should ha ve added that I also checked out the .htaccess code. The wordpress code is identical between the remote and the local version. -Bob

I have moved many wordpress sites before. Nevertheless, I checked the codex and I could see nothing I had done wrong. I did create the virtual host. But the problem remains: On the remote server pages show up as mysite/mypage but on the local server they show up as mysite/index.php/mypage. Navigation doesn't work on the local site. -Bob

I am brand new to wamp. I have a web site that I have worked on remotely for years. I decided to try maintaining the site locally. I installed wamp and wordpress successfully.
