WampServer

Hi, I'm completely new to this, but am keen to test out WAMP and Joomla and have spent a good couple of hours looking for an answer to this - with no avail. When I install WAMP server on my Win XP Pro machine, and attempt to access localhost, firefox and IE just give me the message 'waiting for localhost'... and nothing ever happens. Do I need to do something else before running the program?
