I'm not sure just what messages you are referring to but I've installed WAMP on 5 different windows XP boxes, 3 laptops and 2 desktops, and each has run flawlessly from the initial install. I've also upgraded several of those machines to later releases equally without any problems what so ever.

On your desktop, right mouse and select New->Shortcut A Create Shortcut dialog should appear. In it, browse to the location of the mysql.exe binary file. In my case, its C:\wamp\mysql\bin\mysql.exe. By default, WAMP sets the server offline meaing that it can only be accessed from localhost. If you want to make it accessible to other machines on the network, you need to put it online. To do this, open the WAMP configuration menu in the toolbar and select the 'Put Online' menu item near the bottom of the menu. WAMP will then reconfigure the server and restart it. Your server may be set offline, a new feature of the lastest WAMP package. If offline, you can access it only from localhost, as you are experiencing. This is the installation default. To bring it online, open the WAMP control menu and select the 'Put Online' menu item near the bottom of the menu. When Apache is restarted, it should be accessible using your IP address instead of localhost.

In the WAMP installation folder, there is a file named 'wampserver.ini'. Before editing it, make a backup of it in case you need to go back to it. Edit the file and locate the section . I changed the port number for apache to 8080 and can access pages just fine from the browser using localhost:8080 as the host. However, when I open the WAMP5 utility from the system tray and click on either localhost or phMyAdmin items in the resulting popup menu, it still attempts to find the server at the default port 80 location which, of course, fails. Is there a way to change these two line
