Here is the error that I receive in my "mysql" log file. Error 32 says that the operation is being shared, but since mysql never runs, I don't understand how that could be so. This is a fresh install of 1.712, but I had the same error with 1.64 previously. 070607 21:02:05 InnoDB: Operating system error number 32 in a file operation. I have, Norton Security's Firewall, and all of the mysql executables are listed in the programs to allow. I believe that Apache is also listed (I will double check tonight), but now that I have read that port 80 and port 8080 might need to also be listed, I will look at the software interface, and see if there is some way to allow ports. I've yet to see anyone on this site list all the settings

So, you are saying that you didn't use the .msi script for installing? You compiled everything yourself? - Jimbo

Tried it. Yikes! There are like a gazillion lines of crap to read through (eg. config and initialization lines to be edited in files for each of them). Almost no testing that means a thing for each of them (and this from the support web sites. So, if you can avoid it. Please do yourself a favor. - Jimbo

This is not the case with Norton and Windows XP. I have to shut off the firewall inorder to use wamp, but if I turn the firewall back on, I cannot use wamp. The localhost access is instantly blocked, and I've yet to find a way to tell the Norton Utility to allow it. Anyone have a clue as to how to tell Norton to allow localhost access, and not appear as a threat? Thanks. - Jimbo

No matter how I set my firewall to permit programs, it would still not allow locahost to login (it always saw it as a threat). Just to try, turn off your firewall, and try seeing localhost. If it works, then you need to figure out how to configure your firewall to allow localhost to not be deemed as a threat. - Jimbo

Thanks for the assistance, Andrew & CyberS. I will be following up. CyberS, on the Norton set to allow business. Currently, Norton Security is set to allow any and all of the mysql executables to run, and Apache.exe to run, yet the localhost is still refused access when using these executables. Localhost (####) seen as a threat. I will definitely read through the wamp .chm file listed

Thanks, CyberS. Firewall was problem I went to my firewall, and turned it off. I couldn't figure out how to allow the localhost to not appear as a threat to the firewall (Norton Utilities). It was blocking the localhost access everytime I tried to access it. I know, I know, there should be a way to allow an approved localhost to communicate, but I couldn't figure it out. But how to tell N

Okay, so my query is NOT answered. Apache is running. (Thanks, CyberS), and I do not see a setting in 'Control Panel'->'Network and Internet Connections'->'Internet Options' OR 'Network Connections.' If you know where I could look further for the proxy setting, and still believe that to be the issue, I'd be glad to look for them. PHP is running, so I have to assume that Apache is runni

Thank you both for responding to quickly, CyberS -- Apache is running according to the WAMP menu. mySQL is not. The error log in mySQL lists the same thing over and over. It launches, and it's ready to recieve requests, then it shutsdown. What is that? Reyvan -- neither 127.0.0.1 or localhost work in the brower. They both get the "connection refused" error. I will check for the &quo

Yes, I've read through everything here, and I've seen a few things mentioned that are close, but did not answer my issue. My suspicion is that my problem is something really simple and obvious, but I can't see it. in a browser returns an error: "The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost." So, I cannot accesss localhost, or anything below them phpmyadmin/ and s
