according to PHP.net the use of ASP style tags was added in php 3.0.4 so any idea why we ahve to use <?php Cheers

this has just answered my problem as i had exactly the same issue, one questin I do have though, if i upload my pages to my webhost they all work fine, so the <? is ok there but on my local machine it has to be <?PHP why is it diffeent??

I use dreamweaver and wamp with no problems on basic HTML stuff, I am curreently having issues with PHP commands though. I use WAMP as my testing server and if you have IIS installed it could be causing you some issues with apache. I couldn't get apache to work for the first few installs of wamp. I then found out that I had previously installed apache into a different folder and so it was causing

OK, after several attempts I got wamp to insatll and both services run ok, I am now using it as my testing server for my dreamweaver and things are ok apart from the fact that it doesn't seem to obey any php commands.. An exapample is the fact that my dreamweaver sites all use a require once cammand to pull in the header etc etc. it simply doesn't do it... I made a simple page using notepad that
