I did this (described below), and it worked. Is there a security issue, however? codeMunQuay Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did so, also had issues with the Deny from all > command. Here is the file I found; does it matter where one adds the three new words? Alia

Thank you, Steve. I will be so happy when this issue can be addressed. Right now, all progress has been brought to a complete halt. :-(

Where is the host file, please? There are a whole lot of files in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ directory. I found the Alias file, but have no idea where or how to make the indicated changes. I can find "c:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.4.10.1/" but it is a directory, not a file. Please - what file should I open in order to make the indicated

Thank you, Steve. I did exactly as you suggested this morning and, for the first time, everything worked nicely the first time out. <knocking on wood> When everything is so new and unfamiliar, interference can come from so many directions.

Steve, I still haven't downloaded or tried out Teamviewer. Isn't there some very simple way of starting it, though? So far I've managed to get it started each day. It just seems to be a very hit-or-miss process.

Steve, I've somehow stumbled on a solution but I would appreciate your help because I don't know what it was. Also, this is a recurring puzzle. To answer your question, there was no icon at the time. None at all. That is usually the case in the morning. Then I stumble around for a while, sometimes a rather long while, and then suddenly there is a green icon. There must be a bet

Last night I was able to access localhost. Haven't changed anything since then. Today I can't seem to get WampServer to start. All I get is a message from Firefox that says: "Unable to connect "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost. (etc.)" What should I do?

Hello, Steve, Thank you for your reply and comments. Well, you did just say yourself that it's easy. And I've read elsewhere all about how easy it's supposed to be. But that has certainly not been my experience so far! Well, I guess the next step is to set up a database and then put some data in it? I've set one up, and am now wondering how to populate it. I'

Well, I uninstalled again. And then reinstalled. Still didn't work. I turned off my computer and powered it up again. Still didn't work. So I uninstalled and reinstalled a third time. And now it works. Which is a good feeling. But this is just soooooooo frustrating. Will it get better? So far I've been at this for two nights, and all I've really ac

Steve, thank you for your kind advice. I made the change you recommended and I'm sure it's supposed to work. It didn't work for me, however. I got a different error, but was still locked out. So I have just uninstalled WampServer and then re-installed it. And now I'm getting the same error I got after changing the config file: "Cannot start session without errors, please

Okay, so I try to test my php script. But it tells me that there is no database for it to connect to. (which is true enough). So I decide to set up a database. Usually I do that the hard way but since phpmyadmin is setting there idle, I decide to use that. When I open up phpmyadmin, it points out that I haven't set a password for user 'root', and it recommends that I should do so.

Steve, I've tried both "JavaScript/file.js" and just "file.js" but neither works. I'd love for you to have a look but I've never heard of TeamViewer. Would it be okay if I send you an email?

It's good to know that it should work. As yet, however, I'm unable to make my javascript file work in localhost. It works perfectly on the Web, at my site. I've copied and pasted the contents of both the .html file and the .js file from the Web into my wamp/www/JavaScript directory. (into a new .html file and a new .js file, of course). I've checked and re-checked everything

Steve, I've done as you suggested and it does seem to be working nicely. Thank you very much for your help. I'm now a much happier camper. I guess I'm not supposed to be able to test JavaScript scripts in WAMP? (Any idea how one can test JavaScript easily?)

P.S. I see that there are two files in the wamp/www directory itself, i.e., index.php and testmysql.php Am I supposed to be able to open these in localhost? So are as I can tell, I can't do that -- all I have access to are the various directories. 4: There seems to be some configuration information in the index.php file. Am I supposed to do anything with it? (It's in French, so

Hello, I've been trying to use WampServer for the last couple of days, without much success. It seems to be installed properly. Services are running; it's online. The W icon is green (not yellow, not red). Actually, before I have one preliminary question about security: 1: Do I need to take any security precautions when localhost is online? I've read that I do; I've read

Well, the old tried-and-true from the early days of the Web seems to have done the trick. I shut down and re-booted and voila! -- all of a sudden it was possible to install WampServer. It looks like I might be back in business. :-)

I've downloaded WampServer2 but when I click on the icon to install it, all I get is an error message. The message says: "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Set up aborted." Then it says: "Error 5: Access is denied." I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. Btw, a few days ago I successfully installed WampServer2. I uninstalled it earlier today
