Hi steve i may be having the same error problem can you share what you did to fix it. While i do not have a WAMP server i am using windows php and apache and i have been having that error. Can you share the fix for this. Thank you in advance.

Until Mr.stevenmartin99 give u the magic solution ,,, kindly use 127.0.0.1 rather than localhost, and it will be run, i try it on Win 7 64 bit and it's DONE

I found solution for the Problem in another site and resolved in my Wamp. May be it will help you ...

This is happening because you got delete your host.MYD file, most of the time because it is an empty file.( in my computer it is always 0) to fix this open your my.ini (inside mysql installation) and find your "datadir"

In my wamp installation, it is datadir=C:/programming/wamp/bin/mysql/mysql5.1.36/data
and my standalone mysql installation it is datadir="C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/MySQL/MySQL Server 5.1/Data/"

Anyway m not a xampp user sorry for that. Go to that data directory and go to mysql folder inside it. and inside that find any MYD file. We have to duplicate any MYD file. For example (db.MYD) ,, duplicate it, change its name to host.MYD. and then open newly created host.MYD and clear all the content inside it. Nw mysql should work.

It sounds like your upgrade of MySQL has not worked, and MySQL is not running.

Problem was installing the 64bit wamp on a 32bit windows.
Oddly Apache seemed to run but MySQL would not.

Reinstall with 32bit and all worked.
