wampapache will not start. Err opening log file may be symptom

I am running PHP 5.3.8, JAVA 1.6.0_31, Apache 2.2, Mysql 5.5.24. I installed
wampserver 2.2. the Apache service monitor now shows wampapache as
being present, but it is not started. and there seems to be a problem opening
the Apache error log. I created one but it remains empty. My localhost files
are in c:\Websites and that is where I installed wamp. relevant environmental
variable are set as follows ANT_HOME C:\Apache\apache-ant-1.8.4,
JAVA_HOME C:\Progra~1\Java\jdk1.6.0_31\bin. Appache httpd.conf ServerRoot
is C:/Appache (where aApache lives.) I have LoadModule php5_module
"c:/PHP/php5apache2_2.dll".ServerAdmin grace@localhost, DocumentRoot is
"C:/Websites", PHPIniDir is"C:/PHP".

Okay, first, does it matter where WAMP is installed. Does it need to be in the
Apache directory?

I notice also that I have 2 =wamp directories: c:\wamp, and c:\Websites\wamp
(the contents of each is quite different. c:\wamp has 3 subdirectories: alias, bin
and www. The one (where I installed wamp eventually has these same 3 subs
and several others and a number of .bmp files etc. So, it is confusing at this
point and as far as wamp goes, I am about to clean ot what I have and start over.

I am trying to install PhpMyAdmin and Drupal, but I want to get wamp fixed first.

I have one log entry that may be useful:
[Tue Jul 31 18:29:04 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] client denied by server
configuration: C:/Websites/.htaccess, referer: [stackoverflow.com]
/547224/wamp-cannot-load-mysqli-extension

Thank You in advance for any help that You may be able to offer.

Im very confused.

Why are you installing Wamp?
you have apache , mysql and php all installed seperatly....

Wamp is just an installer for installing all of this along with a nice menu to control them.

of course your going to run into issues trying to run two servers.

you need to decide which you want...

It looks to me like WampServer is a web Development platform that
is made for use with Apache. I am a newbie and very green, so pardon
any misunderstanding hat I may have. I was under the impression that
one was made to be useful when you have the other. Just Learning so
I am dinkin' around with stuff to see what can be made to work.

Thanks for Your input stevenmartin99.

No it's a installer of these server tools which include phpmyadmin etc.

Probbably best to uninstall all the single packages and just use wamp.

Steve,

Does wamp install apache then, why is it mentioned as part of the package
on the download page?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes it installs everything on the download page.

Apache , MySQL , php , phpmyadmin , webgrind etc.

But it does not use the apache monitor as ye wamp menu will look after the service

Thank You Stave for Your patience with me.

I have backed off the old plan and started with WAMPServer. Looking good now except for a problem starting
phpMyAdmin. I posted to that thread. MySQL said: Documentation #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO). the config.inc.php shows the correct password that works through
WAMP's access to MySQL console (see my post - Can NOt Access phpMyAdmin - if you have any ideas).
Otherwise all is going well. I have Apache TomCat on port 8888 - Works fine. Ant seems to work. Just installing Eclipse PHP to point to the same PHP deposits, so I will experiment. Thanks Again!

make sure Eclispe knows the php.ini is actually in the apache/bin folder and not in the php folder.

other than that, it sounds like mysql is not fully uninstalled , as i said in the other post , just grab teamviewer and ill sort it , if you cant find the issue
