MySql console closes after password entered

I am new to PHP. I just installed Wamp server following a tutorial. I installed and set the root password. But when i try to verify if the the password works, the MySql console closes immediately I click enter. I have checked several forums but the solutions are not clear. Help pls asap!!! Also the wamp server icon did not change to green

There are several reasons why the icon may not have turned green. The common one is that you are probably running a program which is already using port 80, such as Skype. Go through the forums, this has been addressed many times and you will probably find your answer there (about the icon color).

I am having the same problem. Just hitting the enter key gives me a loud beep and the console closes. Need help!

What colour is the wamp icon?
