Can't log in to local wordpress installation with WampServer 2

I installed WampServer 2.2 and then installed wordpress locally. The installation seemed to work fine for both. However, WampServer would never run on my Windows 7 machine because something is always using port 80. Thus, I changed the httpd.conf file here: C:\wamp\bin\apache\Apache2.2.21\conf to listen to port 443. After restarting WampServer, the icon is green and it works.

Now to browse to my site I have to go to localhost:443/mysite. Anyway, I ran the five minute installation for WordPress and it completed. However, when I go to [localhost] there is no styling applied to the wordpress page. I then go to the login page, enter my credentials and hit submit. It then always takes me from this URL:

localhost:443/emazingdesign/wp-login.php

to this:

[localhost]

..and I see this error then:

SSL connection error
Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have.
Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error.

Do I need to change some other configuration files to get wordpress to work on port 443? I try in Chrome, Firefox, and IE an the same thing happens in each browser.

Please help. I've been trying to get this running for three days now. Thanks in advance!

I can't use 443. It's for SSL

use 81 or 8080

I changed it to use 8080.

I try to log in at this location: [localhost]

I hit submit and am taken to this page:

[localhost]

...and the error in the browser is this:

Google Chrome's connection attempt to localhost was rejected. The website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the wrench menu > Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.

Two things are strange to me here. One, why is it https, and where did my :8080 go in the URL?

Now on day four of trying to get WordPress installed and running locally with WampServer.... PLEASE HELP!!!

Turns out I have ZERO luck using any other port than 80 for the Apache Webserver in the WampServer 2.2 install.

I have to disable IIS to free the port AND disable the Web Deployment Agent Service.

After doing that I change my httpd.conf to listen to port 80, then run through the WordPress install again and it works fine.

...so my follow up question is, is there any way to get this all to work using a different port than 80? Now since I develop for WordPress and ASP.net I have to disable/enable these services every time I switch between projects which is annoying. Thanks.

Setup VH and use that local domain setup in VH to setup WP

You should setup VH instead; then, you can type 'http://site1' to show the webpage and/or content of folder c:\wamp\www\site1, for example, 'http://site2' to show the webpage and/or content of folder c:\wamp\www\site2, 'http://site3' to show the webpage and/or content of folder c:\wamp\www\site3 ... in additions, you can add their shortcuts to custom WAMP Menu for quick access; check screenshot below winking smiley

[jlbn.com]

No matter within or outside LAN access, you need to setup Access, DNS, and VH; Access for permission to connect to your Wamp PC, DNS to tie Domain(s) to your Wamp PC, and VH to host multiple Domains/Websites/IP's and even you have only 1 Domain/IP, you should use VH to set it up w/ the site you want to show up first on top and localhost on bottom and others in middle if having more than 1 site; w/ VH, other PC's, no matter w/i or outside LAN, can access/see websites/contents of that particular folder set for that particular VH on your wamp PC. If dont have real Domain, just skip DNS guide
