I've installed WAMP 3 times now. I've added the Redistributables for (a) Visual C++ 2008, (b) Visual C++ 2010 SP1 and (c) Visual C++ for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4, removing WAMP after each step and then reinstalling it again.

I've got versions 1.1.4322, 2.0.50727, 3.0, 3.5 and 4 of the Windows .NET FRAMEWORK installed.

I've edited Skype to untick the 'Use port 80...' checkbox.

I'm running XP SP3.

I've stopped IIS from running.

Anything else, guys?

If you are trying to install WAMPServer 2.5 DONT. It will not run on Win XP.

Its not a WAMPServer issue its because the MSVC Runtime 2012 (VC11) will not install in WIN XP.

You will have to make do with WAMPServer 2.4, download available here [sourceforge.net]

Thanks guys.

I installed version 2.4 and now get the error message:

> The procedure entry point inet_ntop could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll

closely followed by:

> PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic link library 'C:\PHP5\ext\php_mysqli.dll' - The specified procedure could not be found.

For the second error, the file does exist and is 84.0 KB in size.

Any more help greatly appreciated ;-)

Are you using WAMPServer or is this a manual install of Apache and PHP?

WAMPServer should not go anywhere near C:\PHP5

I'm using WAMPServer.

WAMPServer should not go anywhere near C:\PHP5

But I've installed PHP5 alongside PHP4 and I don't want to remove PHP4 entirely as I have lots of legacy code (or will it run under PHP5 anyway?)

If WAMPServer shouldn't look for C:\PHP5, should I change C:\PHP5 to C:\PHP and install PHP5 over the old PHP installation?

Right I see, you have installed PHP and maybe Apache manually before installing WAMPServer.

Unfortunately when you use the manual installs from the PHP and Apache site they put files into places like the windows directory.

The default search sequences for PHP Apache and MySQL look in these locations when starting, and I would suggest that when WS starts APache and or PHP it is finding ini files in those places and using them, rather than the files they should be using.

You will need to clean up the previous installs so that they get there ini files from within there installed folders and remove them from the general locations like C:\windows

Then WAMPServer will start with its config/ini files rather than the once that exist in the windows folder.
