WampServer

Hello,

I am new to wamp I have just installed on my laptop having windows xp sp2 , after installation it shows that the new wamp is installed successfully and it also shows me the green W sign.

After I mouse over it show that the wampserver is online but, when i try to open up my local host with firefox as default browser it keeps on searching for local host but it won't work?

Can you guys help me what seems to be the problem is?

In folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

127.0.0.1 localhost

Then restart wamp

i do not see the file "host" in that directory

there are many files in it

one i took notice of is "http.sys" which does not open in wordpad

can you please explain it further please

i had this problem, and here is how i solved it
My pc has windows 7 (may also work in vista)

click on start
click on all programs
click on accessories
right-click on wordpad
click on "run as administrator"
click open
navigate to c\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

and open the file named "hosts"

erase everything in it
and just write the following line

127.0.0.1 localhost


make sure there is at least 7 spaces before the word localhost

in wordpad click on save

thats it

ps: before you follow this instruction, perhaps you may want to highlight all the text in the "hosts" file and save it in a word processor for future reference. Personally i do not see any reason for keeping a copy of the original ..... but making copies of files before modifying is a good advise.

i tried using NOTEPAD but it did not work .... with WORDPAD it worked perfect
