WampServer

Hi there,

I am using windows 7 and wamp server 2.0 I just install the software and copied my server files to the www folder but when I try to access [localhost] I get error:

Not Found
HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found.

The icon is yellow/white and I think apache service is not working. Because when I go Apache/Service the start resume service button is active. The test result is:
Your port 80 is actually used by:
Server: Microsoft-HTTPAPI/2.0

When I try to click start resume service nothing happens and when I try to install service I get error:

cannot install the apache service please stop this application and try again.

I already have working website with joomla installed on it in virtual linux mchine I need to transfer them to windows and show page to customer. Can you please guide me how can I solve that problem?

I used netstat -o -n -a | findstr 0.0:80 to fin the process which use port 80 and stop but PID is 4 and I couldn't find that process task manager list. Even though I find it Process ID 4 is system process and in my opinion aborting that process will cause serious problems.

No one had any problem like that to help?

IIS (Internet Information Services ) and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

Disable IIS in Vista/W7:

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

Disable IIS in XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS)

Restart computer, then restart Wamp

Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

127.0.0.1 localhost

it is already unchecked

and I deleted everything else from host file but Apache stil gave same error:

HTTPAPI is same as IIS? Did I do something wrong or missing?

Any suggestions?

The only things that can have a PID of 4 is IIS or REmote desktop

Sometimes there is 2 IIS on the list

And u will find RDC if u right click My Computer and Properties

For other users who have similar error. You need to stop SQL server reporting service. Also all IISses from mycomputer/manage/services

I spent two days to find out the problem. I hope this will be helpfull for others!

Stopping SQL server Reporting Service was indeed the right thing to do to make wamp work.

ok guys just use XAMPP instead of WAMP, WAMP always shows errors, I was also tired of it. since then I used the xampp it gives no error in any situations in any OS.

I t just works like wamp and nothing else.

Wamp developers should pay heed on this while XAMPP works most of perfectly where WAMP more often gives errors.

if you don't trust me just use it one time. but before installing it read the installation guide first.

now have fun.

Default ports for wamp package are 80 and 3306, so no matter which wamp package such as this wampserver, xampp, phpeasy... you still have same error if already has something ocupied either of these ports
