Unable to click on WAMP Server icon

I am using a new laptop with windows 7. I installed WAMP server. When I start the server the icon appears on the windows desktop tray, but I am unable to right or left click to get a menu. When I click on the icon nothing happens. When I hover the mouse over the icon, it states "WAMP5 - 1 of 2 services running - server offline. "

BTW The icon is yellow.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Remember: I am unable to click on the icon in the right lower corner of my screen. This option does not exist, hence the main problem of my situation.

Make sure no other program conflict Wamp such as IIS, Microsoft Web Deploy, SQL, Skype, Zonealarm, firewall/antivirus, NOD32, Eset, any web related program including Remote Desktop, Teamviewer or Apache, MySQL, PHP outside wamp folder (ie. in Program Files or System32 folder) ...

IIS and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

Disable IIS in Vista/W7:

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

Disable IIS in XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS)

Restart computer, then restart Wamp

Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

127.0.0.1 localhost

if using skype, open skype > tools>options>advanced>connection uncheck "use port 80..." restart wamp then skype

Thank you yfastud,
I now can use the menus from either right or left click.
The icon is still yellow. "WAMPSERVER - server Offline"
I try to put the server online. The spinning circles appears and dissapears in about 5 secs or less. Server stays offline. I also am unable to use phpmyadmin, even though the SQL server is running and accessable thru the command prompt from the SQL menu. localhost is also unaccessable.

BTW I had no problem installing WAMP on a machine with Windows XP. Didn't have to do anything but click install.

Thank you for your help,

P. Scott Alexander

but still i CAN NOT Right or LEFT click the icon on Windows 7 !
is there anyway to start the service from DOS command prompt or use the program as normal software rather then running in taskbar.
i guess the problem is with Windows 7 taskbar ( notification bar ) so i changed windows theme to basic as well even then it does not work sad smiley

yes i'm using as Admin but i still think its NOT the issue with any other program or administrative.
The problem is SIMPLE - "I CANT RIGHT CLICK" its is running and shows message on mouse over " WAMP5 - None of 2 services running - Server Offline " on mouse over.
But i cant CLICK right or left it just doesnt works at all

i still think it has issue with Windows 7 task manager

Unfortunately i have the exact same problem! I have done everything yfastud said, however i still can't click the icon. The icon is red on the left part and when i hover over it says: "WAMP5 - None of 2 services running - server Offline".

It also didn't help tot turn the UAC permissions off.

After installing and uninstalling it a few times, even with different downloads, it stays exactly the same. So i guess it's not an incomplete download or something.

Hopefully someone knows what to do!

Fixed the issue. I was unable to interact with the wampserver icon in the sytem tray to get it to do anything. If wamp server seemed to have installed fine but it doesn't get up and running all the way and doesn't let you do anything with it and just sits there in your system tray, not responding to your clicks, here's a guide to fix it.

I tried a bunch of solutions including disabling UAC and none of them helped. I disabled IIS and I still couldn't click WAMP's icon in the systray. Wamp wasn't up and running all the way.

Now here's a quick gist of what worked, please follow the step by step instructions below to be sure you're doing it right. I went into my "C:/Program Files(x86)" folder on my Win 7 64 installation (I'm guessing it's gonna be "C:/Program Files" on XP) and deleted the "PHP" folder. Not sure which of my installers put it there, but it certainly wasn't WAMP and WAMP is what I need to be using now. The PHP folder seemed to have been interfering with WAMP's PHP setup. After you have deleted the PHP fodler in Program Files, let WAMP setup everything the way it needs to and you should be good to go. I have re-enabled UAC with WAMP working perfectly. However, I chose to leave IIS off since I believe that could affect WAMP.

To summarize, here's what resolved the issue for me:

1 - Uninstall WAMP

2 - Delete any remnants from installation (In my case, I deleted "C:/wamp" ) just to be sure you're starting off with a clean slate

3 - Find the "PHP" folder in "C:/Program Files(x86)" or in "C:/Program Files" and delete it

4 - Ensure you've disabled IIS. If you aren't sure about how to do so, look for yfastud's comment in this thread. Restart the computer if you just disabled IIS. If it has already been disabled AND the machine has already been restarted, proceed to step 5

5 - Install wampserver as admin, and launch it when the installation is complete.

6 - wampserver should be up and running and functioning fine.

I really hope this helps all you people who are still stuck out there. Please let me know this worked just so I can feel good knowing I helped someone make their day better. Isn't it always better when things work the way they're supposed to..? smiling smiley

Have a nice day and good luck...

I had the same issue, and I have just installed Windows 7, therefore I had no my.ini file around wamp folder and my IIS was unchecked. The wamp server was offline and this how I solved the problem and I might save time to somebody else:

1.in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

127.0.0.1 localhost,

I'm not sure whether it's unnecessary or not, but I restarted my computer

2. left click on wamp icon in right bottom corner of the screen, choose option "put online"

3.same left click, choose localhost.

And I got it working in browser. Could not believe it was easy.

Hopefully, I was able to help to someone.

Hey whistler

I use windows 7..
I am facing the same problem, I am not able to right click the wamp icon in the tray.
I tried searching for the php folder in the program files as suggested by you but it is not there.
Also "wamp apache service is missing"
I tried the following steps -
Press Windows + R, to open Run.
Type services.msc and click enter.
Services windows will open.
Confirm wampapache, wampmysqld is started if not please start it manually.
Right click wampapache and then click start. Do the same for wampmysqld too.

Please help me...

Hello,

This sounds like your system may have not have had the MSCV 2008 and MSVC 2012 runtime libraries before installing WAMPServer.

See this post and install at least the 2008 and 2012 runtimes. If you have WAMPServer 64bit then install both the 32bit and 64 bit versions of these libraries.

Then I would uninstall WAMPServer, delet the \wamp folder completely. And then try the install again.

Read The Manuals Apache -- MySQL -- PHP -- phpMyAdmin

Hey RiggsFolly ,

This is the first solution that I tried. I have installed all these libraries.
Do you know some other solution?

Hi,

In some cases, if you install Wampserver without good Visual C ++ libraries, you can not get a proper operation even after installing the VC packages.

The only solution is to uninstall Wampserver, delete the folder wamp and its contents, verify that the services wampapache and wampmysqld were removed. And only after all this checking, reinstall Wampserver.

Also, remember that if you use a Windows 64 bit, you MUST install both 32 and 64 bit VC packages, even if you use only 32-bit WampServer.
