CPU on VMware

I am currently running WampServer 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 inside a VMware Virtual Machine to host a Joomla site.

At busy times the CPU utilization for the httpd.exe process on VMware is constantly 100% . When I test this at nonbusy times, everytime I request a page from the site, the CPU very briefly spikes to 100% .

So with this, if enough users use the site at the same time, the previous mentioned behaviour would be explained.

I have two questions:

- What could cause this behaviour?
- How does Wampserver handle two virtual cpu's. If I tell VMware to add another processor (currently using one at 2000 Mhz max.) would this help, or would Wampserver simply ignore the second processor?

If I need to post more information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks in advance

I guess no1 answer your question because most people might use VM for trying OS but to run a server???

Thank you for your reply.

Why would it be so strange to run a server(OS) in VMware? VMware was build just for this purpose..

let me rephrase it: VMware is a paid soft so might not have too many people using it in order to answer your question, and since it's paid soft, you might want to check w/ them for support winking smiley

Do you happen to know if wampserver recognizes dual CPU or does it just utilize one CPU no matter how many the system has.

Wamp is not the problem. The problem is more likely to do with Apache (the http server wamp installs). I find it strange you're hosting a live site under a virtual machine tho.

Also Wampserver is not intended for hosting live sites. It should only be used for development/testing purposes.
