Wamp Install seems Super High

I could be wrong but ....

IS a typical WAMP install supposed to show as 7323MB ?

If I go to Add/Remove Programs it shows as that.

I see under windows services wampapache and wampmysql are listed but stopped not running on startup, obviously I have to start up the services to draw resources but...

I'm wondering if there is any major drag or resource pull? If this effects common operation of the computer. I'm experiencing slow computer response and trying to eliminate all possibilities and increase speed.

Any advice or proper install or trimming tips would be appreciated.

What is a common value with a wamp install? Other than when running localhost is something I should know? My site is fairly big with a 12mb Database.

thanks.

wow.

I thought so.

This is insane.

What would cause that??

I have no clue.

I also noticed that All Services are not working properly.

I will re-install v.2 in 7 hours time.

Is there a proper or easy way to re-install??

I would assume the best and only way is to just simply
// move www directories
// export whichever db's I want to keep
// from Add/Remove Programs > choose Remove.
// Restart > then do a fresh re-install.

Over 7GBs it says...
I've never seen anything like it!
I have no idea what would cause that.

Hopefully a re-install will fix the problem...

THANKS for the help!

you need to delete the wamp folder after you uninstall it as it doesnt delete a good few files.

but make sure uv copied out the www folder and exported your dbs as .sql files

Two possible causes.
-------------------

Windows doesnt always check the file size.. if a file says its 5gb windows assumes its 5gb lol (stupid)
Your installer for wamp may have curropt and make some silly errors when installing and windows didnt check

or

Your Harddisk has errors.. althought this is not as likely since you did say your machine is unusally slow.. iv seen a number of drives say files are huge and then pc is slow...and then the disk crashes,
(just check each folder in wamp to see what exact file is saying its so big, just check each folder.. normally there is no folder over 50mb)

its usually to do with the mappign index section f the drive so there is very little you can do,, just get everything off it before it dies... If it does die.. a good tip i use is to take the disk out.. and sit it on ice while you connect it to another machine. you shud be always to get your files this way (obviously cover the ice with something and sit the disk on that)

hope you sort it smiling smiley

Well. // Thanks for the help.

I am happy to report the good news...

after doing the above / moved and exported all my files / removed the apps / and reinstalled -

I now have ~ According to my Add/Remove Programs or Windows - A new WAMP installation @ exactly 131 MBs.

Now the bad news. Well no so bad, but.
With the new installation / I START all Services and NOTHING.
IF I RESTART All Services / The icon goes Yellow / then dies to RED.
Which tells me - Nada Services.

I could drum through the forum files and pull from various obvious INFO.
Is there links or some obvious checklist to go through the most common reasons/problems.

How do / or what is the easiest way to troubleshoot. check IIS etc?

. also one last question . kinda a low level one . it's been a while . / But -
IF I have localhost/WAMP set up properly / What limitations [such as forms, email, certain strings or php functions etc] would you have to deal with currently as opposed to Running on a Live server?

thanks again for the help.

forgot one sidenote /
it is possible that the drive is going bad but
based on the fact that I just did drive maintenance recently
and seems to be running through tests as normal,
I have to want to believe everything is o.k.

thanks for all the help.

I was going to say...

on the machine, I'm behind a company firewall...

I tried to fire up Windows Live Messenger and it asked me to
either upgrade it or plainly Messenger is unusable.

So. yeah. though. you could be very right about the antivirus/firewall. That area might be a red flag or a place to look although I did look into checking Apache port and seemed to be o.k.

I will have to pick it up again on Monday...

not exactly sure what to look for so I may take you up on the MSN.

thank you for help and support!

so it's not company firewall but sound more like you dont have permission since you need to be admin w/ full privilege to run a server winking smiley
