WAMP doesn't need to be set to Server online for localhost to work. When wamp is set to Server online it means it'll accept connections from external addresses (eg internet).

Can you confirm the wamp tray icon is white? Also what happens if you go to [127.0.0.1]

If 127.0.0.1 works, check your hosts file (C:/Windows/system32/drivers/etc) contains the following line
127.0.0.1 localhost
if your cant find it add it.

NOTE: If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you'll have to first open your editor with elevated privileges, for example Goto Start > All Programmes > Accessories. Right click Notepad and select Open as Administrator. Now go to File > Open and type the following in the Filename box
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Click Open. After changes go to File > Save

That means WAMP is not working, due to errors. First try to start WAMP, by left clicking WAMP tray icon and select Start All Services

Does the trayicon change? If it doesn't it will mean something is wrong. If this is the case then it is more than likely there is another App/process using port 80. Wamp requires this port to function,

Make sure you dont have IIS, Skype etc running. These are the most common culprits. Skype can be configured to use a different port with will allow WAMP to work.

You need to be the administrator of your station in order to install wamp services.

TheMD ...

Is it possible that you have either Sky Player Online/Channel Four OD, or Veoh installed? If so the service KService (the Delivery Manager) could be the culprit, as it does something with Port 80, even if it doesn't actually claim it 100%.

If this applies to you, open up Services, find KService (Delivery Manager) and using the Properties Dialogue, first stop it, then switch it to manual. It may crash in response to this (I imagine that the developer didn't dream anyone would turn off his service), and will also crash if you reboot, but at least it will get out of the way of Apache.

Otherwise you could always change the Port used by Apache ...

Since both two services are not installed, I presume there is a problem with rights.
Because if something is blocking port 80, mysql should not be blocked (and icon should be yellow).
Else there is another webserver with port 80 and port 3306...

I am having the same problem, the icon is red and white. I don't have skype installed and running XP service pack 2. i've tried starting, stopping,re-starting all services from the icon in the taskbar

I've tested port 80 with "c:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.0\php.exe" and it says "Your port 80 is not actually used."

I found my problem while writing this post.

I left clicked the "wamp" icon, scrolled up to "Apache" then went across to "Service" and then down to "Install
Service" followed the prompts, then went back to "Start All Services" and Bingo the icon turned yellow and localHost worked instantly.

Hope the last bit helps

Steve.

Hi Everyone!
My local host server is red and white. i couldnt get my local host as WAMP. IIS7 is using the port 80. I have never installed IIS7, i wonder how i can get rid of it (by doing so, will this cause me problem with other application) so that i can get WAMP as my local server.
Any idea or suggestion will be much appreciated.
