Cannot start wampserver

I installed wampserver 2.0i on Windows XP SP3. The installation seemed to go fine, but several things are missing:
- The desktop icon I selected during the install is not there.
- The wampmanager starts, but doesn't have any of the context menu items that let me start/stop httpd/mysql. Also it always says that the WAMPSERVER is offline.
- The installer started httpd/mysql, but lateron I didn't know how to restart them. The wampmanager wouldn't do it and there are no services registered.

How can I reliably start the httpd and mysql?

When clicking the wamp tray icon make sure you are LEFT clinking it for managing WAMPServer.

Also ensure you are logged in as an administrator too.

Thanks, I didn't expect the left-click, especially since the right-click produces a different context menu. And I found the services, they start with 'wamp...'.

c2dan,

I'd also like to thank you! I installed WampServer 2 at my workplace and spent almost an hour trying to figure out why it wouldn't work at all. Finally I saw your post with the note "Also ensure you are logged in as an administrator too" and I quickly asked my employers for an administrator login. Now everything's smooth sailing. I appreciate the helpful sharing of knowledge!
