the session for mySQL will not start...?

The session for mySQL will not start. When I tell it to 'start service' nothing happens. When I tell it to 'install service' nothing happens. When I am in my localhost files I can not access my phpMyAdmin. Any ideas as to why?

it is mostly yellow.

Ok. I got the icon to be white. I am trying to run Joomla. I am able to access phpmyadmin now, but when I try to access the admin account for Joomla in the Projects file it says, "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to database"

I'm also tearing my hair out at this point. What is the Joomla setup script? I'm working from Barrie North's book as well as the J1.5 installation manual but can't see that I've missed anything.

I have deleted an old project and downloaded a new version of Joomla!, extracting it to wamp/www/project name

I have started the instalation routine but can't seem to get the right entries in the Database Config section. I've entered:

mysql
localhost
password (various options)
project name (as database name)

What am I doing wrong?

Sorry - I may not have been clear above - after clicking NEXT from that point in teh installation, I get:

"Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to database"

So I presume I am not entering the details correctly.

Many thanks for your direction - I visited and followed your tutorial but got stuck after creating the password - after that I couldn't do anything, so I uninstalled and reinstalled WampServer and got to it that way.

I'm going to have another go without the password side trip though, to see if I can manage to have more than one project on the go.

We'll see!
