localhost inaccessible on Vista
Solution:

1. If you are running Skype, make sure to change the port option in Advance tab (not to use port 80).
2. If you are using firefox as default browser, type about:config in the url tab, search for "browser.fixup.alternate.enabled" and make it false.
3. Since Vista access localhost via IPv6 as default, we have to remove the localhost mapping for IPv6.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and look for hosts file.
Comment out the last line, so it will look like "#::1 localhost" and leave "127.0.0.1 localhost" along.

You may encounter some UAC problem, while trying to access the hosts file.
The easiest way to get access is to turn off the UAC by a little tool TweakUAC.

Hope this would help some people.

Hi,
thanks for that, i like the tewak device smiling smiley

Unfortunately it didn't fix mine.
Can i please double check, with the skype settings, just untick the box saying use port 80 or 443. Are we meant to do anything else there?

I've also been through the steps in the post labelled:
can't access local host/WAMP homepage

Does anyone have any other ideas?

you can run both skype and wamp by open skype... tools, options, connection . and uncheck "use port 80 as alternative" then restart wamp

I've got the same problem - installed Wamp a few days ago and it's been working perfectly until now under Vista. Today it refuses to cooperate. I have Skype turned off and am using Wamp to run a local development version of a Wordpress site.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
