How to get Wamp working on Windows 7 x64?
Posted by: ninjab (---.cust.wide.net.au)

Hi,

I have the similar issue in Windows Vista x64 from time to time but upon installing Windows 7, I cannot get it to work.

It installs fine, but if I type in localhost it will just give me blank page. The Wamp icon is also red (if that means something as I remember it being yellow before)

Thanks for anyone who can help. I noticed someone below in anoher thread got it working but didnt say how they did it at all.

Yep, I've got it working on win 7 32bit, so not sure how it goes on 64, but make sure to set elevation in uac and exceptions in firewalls and defender ;-)

I will have to install Apache MySQL and PHP on Windows Vista x64 soon. I suppose, if you want to use WampServer, you should still change default versions to 64 bit versions of AMP.

Set elevation in uac? Sorry I am a bit lost as to what you mean?

And Michl, how do I install the 64bit versions of Amp of those?

Bit lost as to what or how you think I should do. Sorry sad smiley

Kill me if I know tongue sticking out smiley I never actually tried. It's just my educated guess, that on 64bit OS you will need 64bit software.

Unlike a few other OSes I've worked with, 64bit Windows handles 32bit Windows software very cleanly - it automagically wraps them in an environment to run in called WOW64, and they run fine. Only hardware drivers are distict - they tend to have to be 64bit to work. I have WAMPServer 2 working perfectly on Vista x64 right now, and there's no reason to think it will be any different on Windows 7. I'll be trying it on Windows 7 x64 in the next couple of weeks.

In my experience, UAC and the improved firewall are much more of a hurdle to getting 32bit software running cleanly, but in my book those changes were necessary and positive. There's always been a right configuration in my experience.

Well sometimes when I start it in Vistax64, it doesnt seem to work. If I reboot and start it, it will be fine. I havent tried again in Win7. But hell even MS programs dont even work properly in it. I had issues with Office 2007 even.

And I just installed a virus program which was finding various files in WOW64 dir of Windows dir and I said to quarantine them (did this tonight) so I hope it hasnt stopped some pogram from working! Seems all ok so far.

I've had the same problem on my WIn 7 x64 but manage to get it working:

1 Give "start wampserer" an exception in win firewall.

2 Rightclick on "start wampserver" go to properties and under Security give you're user full premissions

3 start wampserver

4 leftclick on the icon located under the "up arrow" left side of the clock in the startmeny bar.

5 install apache services an mysql service

6 start this services from the leftklick menu.

Hope this helps smiling smiley

Thanks for reply.

I actually have it working in windows 7 x64, but I am having real issues getting it to work properly in vista x64. Id say something is really playing around with sometyhing. One min it works and then the next it doesnt. Prob firewall related but I dont see why since ive granted it permissions by memory..

I've had the same problems, some months later. Perhaps this has been resolved elsewhere, but just in case, the problem (for me at least) was a conflict with Skype over port 80.

Try turning off skype or any other app using port 80.

Hi,

1.
I have installed Windows 7 64-Bit on my laptop. I also set up wamp. When i click on local-host, it redirects itself from: "[localhost]; to "[www.localhost.com]; . Though it opens fine with the local ip i.e "[127.0.0.1];

Can some one tell me whats the reason why it is redirecting. Never happened before when i was working with Windows XP.

2.
Also the PhpMyAdmin link; when i click on it shows the following error:
"#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured) "

I have not configured any file in the wamp directory and even tried re-installing wamp and the default browser--- mozilla.

Can some-one please help me. My mail id is: "vikaasgoel.007@gmail.com"

Thank you

OK- I figured this one out. The problem is in the host file....

Go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\host - remove anything below the #127.0.0.1 - You will have to save the file to the desktop & the copy and paste it back to the main directory with Admin permissions if you are using Windows 7.

Hope this helps someone else!

Thx for the tips WIGWAG, had skype ON, would never have thought it would conflict with WAMP.

Saved me a lot of trying and frustration!

ciao

antoine

BTW I have it running on Win7. Installed it straight forward, not special seting or anything and worked almost first shot (if it wouldn't have been of skype)

I have also install all new version of apache mysql and php.

When you run Test Port 80 "Apache > Service" it will tell you what conflicting, i did and it's says Conflict might be Skype winking smiley just put it on your troubleshoot checklist.

Anyway Thanks for WIGWAG that he left a hint about this.
