Port 80 being used by Server: Microsoft-HTTPAPI/2.0?

I've just installed WAMP on my Vista computer. I can't make it work properly and when I chose the option "Test Port 80" I get the message "Port 80 being used by Server: Microsoft-HTTPAPI/2.0".

I've stopped my IIS-server and also changed the default website in IIS to port 8011. I've also looked in my hosts file and there are no : before my 127.0.0.1 localhost option (which I've seen been mentioned in some threads here) but it still doesn't work. I'm completely new to this so it might be very obvious to you guys, but please help! Thanks!

Theory, you can have both, but IIS and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

Disable IIS in Vista:

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

Disable IIS in XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS)

Restart computer, then restart Wamp

Thanks for your answer but I don't want to disable IIS as I need it for my .net development.

Is there a way that I can change Apache/Wamp to use another port instead? I tried to change the listen command (as well as the ServerName localhost:80) in httpd.conf but that didn't seem to help. I understand I need to do something more?

No need to engage in this problem anymore.
I solved this issue by installing wamp on another computer and it works great!

great on that computer alone, but might run into problem later if open up for worldwide access :-(
instead run iis, just disable it, install wamp only, then install asp.net and sql for wamp to run your .net app; check my guide here

Many thanks oscartk - that worked perfectly.

I edited the httpd.conf file in two places and changed 80 to 8080

Hi All,

I had the same issure and wha I did is I went to

Control Panel\Security\Administrative Tools

in there I clicked 'services'and stopped Web Development Service.

Note: When I had this issue I was using Windows 7 Basic version.

For Windows 7home premium U should probably go to IIS Manager and on the right inside Manage Server Click Stop for Wamp server to show green

Hope this helps

thanks
Siva

Hello,

I also had the same problem but I didn't had IIS installed. After some research I figured it out: I had Microsoft SQL Server (ver 2008 R2). After I stopped the MS SQL Server the port 8080 got released and I was able to start Wamp Server

Hope this helps

Best regards,
Albert

I had this issue as well.

After testing port 80 in the apache folder, it said that port 80 was being used by HTTPAPI/2.0.

I disabled web deployment agent service(MsDepSvc) then clicked start on wampapache and it started working.

Thanks for the helps guys!

According me pls change port of wamp , assign new port to wamp server ,
c:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.X.X\conf\httpd.conf - open in notepad , and change to Listen 80 to Listen 8090 , and save to file and restart to wamp server

GOOD LUCK

You go to Run and cmd+enter
type: netstat -ano
It'll lists all the active connections
example:

Active Connections
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID
TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 892

Now you have PID=892
you open task manager and choose PID892 and kill it
and then you restart wamp

I think that you need smiling smiley

Hi One of the solutions worked for me.
Just open Apache > httpd.conf
then change "Listen 80" to "Listen 8080" depending on what was there before.
Then finally, "Restart All Services" and Wamp works!!
