changed localhost root password and cannot use phpmyadmin

Please help. I changed the localhost root password and now get error from phpmy admin- mysql rejected connection check user name password ect... What do I do. I restored my computer to yesterday which is before I set the password and it still does not work.

How did you change password? Anyway, check my Setup Password guide here and skip steps already done

I cannot open the phpmyAdmin because the error cannot be removed

MySQL said:

#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

I have even tried restoring to an earlier date(the day before) and the screen is the same?

Also, I forgot to add that there were at least 4 root passwords- did not know which one to change first and was following the guide. I thought I should do the localhost and then mysql.
I guess not.
