problem with slashes

Recently installed vista and latest wampserver on a local workstation I use for testing apps before publishing but I am having a problem with slashes in directory paths.

Forward slash "/" should work in the windows environment, at least it did in my previous non-wamp setup of apache/php/mysql. But with wamp I get a fatal error saying the include could not be found. If I change the directory seperator to a backslash it works. Problem is I can't and don't particularly want to change all my code to use backslashes. Theoritically windows should work with both / and \ and the php.ini is still the default wamp setup using / and it works. So why do my pages in local not work?

Is there a setting I missed?

Uninstalled Wamp - installed Xampp - no more problem.

Thanks anyway.....
