Login problems in Joomla installation

I have installed WampServer 2.0b on a Vista computer. Installation went well. I installed Joomla 1.013 afterwards and this procedure went well and I could access the control panel in Joomla.

BUT: When trying to login again into Joomla I was denied access with the error message: wrong userid or password or wrong access level. I double checked my user identity, but the user/password I entered during the installation of Joomla doesn't work anymore.

Does anyone know what's the problem?

Hi,

Are you logging into the domain name followed by /administrator ?

You should be able to select the option 'Lost Password?' from the login screen and a new password will be sent to your email address - assuming you set up the SMTP / mail server configuration during the installation.

I hope you have a second Super Administrator user you can use.

Yes, I use the backend login at localhost/mywebsite/administration.

Yes, I entered an e-mail when I installed Joomla into Wampserver.

No, I can't see any option "lost e-mail" at the admin login web page.

This is a local development site so there's noone else that have access to it.

I did this procdure:
1. I installed Wampserver 2.0b with no problems other than I had to manually activate magic_quotes in PHP
2. I installed Joomla 1.013 with no problems, all system check was OK
3. I deleted the installation folder in Joomla
4. I logged in via the localhost/mywebsite/administration with no problems
5. I installed some templates, components, modules and plugins with no problems
6. I imported a database via phpMyAdmin with no problem
7. I browsed the local site for awhile and when I returned to Joomlas control panel I was logged out.
8. I could not login again. Error message: Incorrect Username, Password or Access Level
9. It's impossible to login even if I restart Wampserver
10. I have even tried to reinstall Joomla but the situation occurs again.

I have used JSAS for a long time on a XP computer with no problems at all. When I got this Vista PC I could not get JSAS to work properly so I decided to check WampServer, with all its good reviews on the Internet.

I guess my problems must have something to do with this Vista thing. I use Norton Protection Center which may as well cause some problems. But I don't know where to start look for solutions. I have a limited knowledge in PHP and Apache on the whole.

Anyone who recognize the problem?

Hold your horses!

Today it was made clear that I need a new brain :-)

I browsed some other forums when I suddenly I felt this chill down my spine when I realized I must have imported the user details when I imported my database content. No wonder my password didn't work!

I am back in business now. This proves the fact that one must check and check again everything.

Sorry to have troubled you

This sounds more like a Joomla problem. You could increase the 15 minute Admin Session Lifetime in the Joomla configuration.

Did you drop the database before you re-installed Joomla? I am not sure if the re-installation starts the user table from scratch or not.

Thanks for your help.
The problem is solved.
The admin password was overwritten when importing the database.
