Hi there
I am experiencing the same problem. i.e. "phpMyAdmin - Cannot load mysqli extension"
I have noticed that in the phpinfo the "Configuration File (php.ini) Path" is set to C:\windows though this is not where my php.ini file resides. Also "Loaded Configuration File " is coming up as "none".
I tried copying the php.ini to the windows directory though this seemed to have no affect.
I did have a previous version of php installed at one time though I have uninstalled it and deleted the .ini file from its directory.
I have tried every solution I have found though I can't seem to change the "Configuration File (php.ini) Path"
How is this set and how do you change it??? I have tried changing the config files though this just doesn't seem to work.
Please help!!!!!

just add in your php.ini
[PHP_MCRYPT]
extension=php_mcrypt.dll
[PHP_MYSQL]
extension=php_mysql.dll
[PHP_MYSQLI]
extension=php_mysqli.dll

check this post it was simple and effective. i too had the same problem, this gives the functionality behind the lines in the php.ini.

when you have two versions of php installed in wamp, which was the cause of error in my case, this will help...

Hi, i got the solution:
if you're using windows xp, first copy php_mysqli.dll to ext directory of your php installation.
After, go to control panel in windows, administrative tools(?), services - just restart mysql service.
enjoy.
