It meant you did NOT setup vh properly because you can NOT even access your sites w/i your LAN, so you can't access them outside your LAN, I mean worldwide. There are a lot of factors such as your wamp not running at all, your vh setup not right, your access setup not right, so on

They're too many to post here, so check the guides listed below on my personal website, and you should have a good look to see if you're missing any steps, since I've seen some people told me that they've done pretty much every things they see in my guides, then later on found out that they're missing a step or two ;-)

Setup Wamp
Setup Virtual Host
Setup LAN & Worldwide Access
Setup DNS

No matter which wamp package you try, when it's conflict it will conflict, so you have to find out which factor on your computer causes it

bit of a cop out there innit? it must be me and my pc that has 'conflict' ... mmm

I'm not interested in wamp or any of the other xampp or what have you

I'll just buy a cheap domain name (or use one i already own) and use that to set up a mirror structureon the same host.

not free i know but at least i know it will work

I don't want to be mean or rude or anything that you can think of, but I just like to point out the differences for you

Wamp and domain are 2 different things. You can run wamp on your computer w/o domain, and when you've registered a domain, you can run it on wamp or on any other hosting services out there

You install wamp, I mean including this wampserver package or any other wamp such as xampp or so, because you like to have ability to test your websites/projects on your computer(s) before actually have it go live and accessible worldwide in order to avoid some small mistakes that you might make while establish your websites/projects. The difference is every change you make on the web host, it will show immediately and you might block out all users/visitors because of a small mistake

A very common problem that most users have is the lack of patience ;-) This common problem might not apply to you, but I just point out in case anyone read this message and understand why they might have the same problem. A user might try out a wamp package such as xampp, php triad, php easy or any other wamp package and the result did not come out as they were expected; then, they turned to this wampserver package; however, they did not realize that wamp is conflicted even they've already uninstalled other wamp package. Too many reasons to list such as they were not completely uninstall other wamp, they did not know how to clean other wamp's registries which prevents to register this wampserver package to run in windows, they've already had some software that conflict w/ any web server including this wampserver package and other wamp packages, so on

For your particular problem, try to setup Virutal Hosts that you can use local domain names to access your websites w/i your LAN first; when I stated your LAN here, I mean to include the computer that you installed wampserver. When everything work locally, you can expand further to have your websites accessible worldwide ;-)

BTW, in order to have your websites accessible worldwide, you need at least to have all setups and settings that I include in my guides on my personal website. Check them out to see if you're missing any step :-(

Setup Virtual Host
Setup LAN & Worldwide Access

There's no need to point out the differences to me, I fully understand the differences. I was simply looking for an easy way to set up a full life-cycle development environment (including unit, system, integration and live 'fix' support) on my pc without having to do it on one of my domains... for that reason I looked at WAMP. I was happy to do that on one of my domains but had hear WAMP may be an easier solution.

No matter what you say, the fact remains that after many hours of trying and multiple messages from yourselves the WMAP installation was not working and, in the end, it seems to me as though you were saying it was my fault (or my pc's fault) that WAMP wasn't working... then sayng there are too many reasons why WAMP won't work (all of which apparently are nothing to do with WAMP or the support for it, but my fault .. again)

... not really what you want to hear when you're accessing 'support' . The lack of patience was, I thnk, from support ... how can you say 'there are too many reasons' why the install ation din't work and then not offer solutions to those reasons??

I unistalled WMAP from my pc. BTW I had never had any other WAMP/XAMPP variant installed n my pc before either.

So, and just so you know, to satisfy my own curiosity, I managed to find an excellent guide and have now installed:

Apache
PHP
MySQL
phpMyAdmin

on my own pc and they work perfectly together.

In my experience that's a far easier route to take than tryting to get WAMP working and I recommend that to anyone else who is looking for an easy way to set up a dev environment.

All the best.

No matter which wamp you install, as package or standalone, as long as they work for you. Good luck, buddy ;-)
