Is there a setting you can use to make the apache component give you more details about why it fails to boot? Thanks

K this the whole httpd.conf and the later part of the access log. The odd thing is it seems to be working intermittently though I'm not clear on how. Sometimes if I just go to localhost I get redirect to the first VH host's index page I set up. When I try going to its servername or server alias i get a 404. Whether or not the server starts seems to be irregular for some reason.

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:[httpd.apache.org]; for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:[httpd.apache.org];
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache"winking smiley.
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
# confusion.
#

# ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process
# MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves
ThreadsPerChild 250
MaxRequestsPerChild 0

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "c:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.2.6"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or

# Note you _must_not_ indent the actual shebang line, and it must be the

#
# However, Apache on Windows allows either the Unix behavior above, or can

Cleared cache no effect, both are running apparently. The VH stuff seems to be "sorta" working, at least in that the index file is being fetched but not under the right circumstances. The logs are posting any details about what's going on because requests to the VH servers aren't being picked up correctly (404ing). I'm trying to figure out if the VH hosts are working and I'm not using the right URL or if their not working at all

Actually it seems that the first VH defined is returned as [localhost] not sure what that means in terms of what VH is configured yet.

No it's still yellow. The wamp mysql conflicts with the mysql already installed on my pc so it doesn't think all services are working, but it's had no trouble just using my own mysql version. I gave the php apps I use the user name and password and it works fine until I tried to set up VHs.

#
# Virtual Hosts
#
# If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
# machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
# use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
# IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
#
# Please see the documentation at
# <URL:[httpd.apache.org];
# for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
#
# You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
# configuration.

#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#
NameVirtualHost *:80

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for all requests that do not
# match a ServerName or ServerAlias in any <VirtualHost> block.
#

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@wordpress.localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/wordpress-mu"
ServerName wordpress-mu.localhost
ServerAlias www.wordpress-mu.localhost
#ErrorLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost/logs/error.log"
#CustomLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost/logs/access_log common"
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@wordpress.localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/wordpress"
ServerName wordpress.localhost
ServerAlias www.wordpress.localhost
#ErrorLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost/logs/error.log"
#CustomLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost/logs/access_log common"
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host.localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host.localhost"
ServerName dummy-host.localhost
ServerAlias www.dummy-host.localhost
#ErrorLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host.localhost/logs/error.log"
#CustomLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host.localhost/logs/access_log common"
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host2.localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost"
ServerName dummy-host.localhost2
ServerAlias www.dummy-host.localhost2
#ErrorLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost/logs/error.log"
#CustomLog "C:/wamp/www/docs/dummy-host2.localhost/logs/access_log common"

delete everything in the file and put just this in it

NameVirtualHost *:80

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.wordpress-mu.localhost
ServerAlias wordpress-mu.localhost *wordpress-mu.localhost
DocumentRoot /www/wordpress-mu
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.wordpress.localhost
DocumentRoot /www/wordpress
</VirtualHost>

Ok I tried that.

Now when I just enter localhost I get a forbidden exception

I tried entering wordpress.localhost but that just redirects me to localhost (that's my fault I edited the hosts file in system32 to do that as a tutorial instructed)

wordpress-mu.localhost returns a 404
