Hi!

I downloaded and install WAMP but when I type [localhost] in my browser I only see a white empty side, what’s wrong? I have re-installed WAMP once and install it on another computer (one Vista and one XP) but it still doesn’t work, anyone who has any ideas? //Adrian

Check your computer if you have anything in this list: IIS, skype, zone alarm, nod32, internet optimizer, google accelerator, so on

Some people were successful to have wamp running by installing wamp first then installing other apps such as zone alarm, nod32, so on; however, one day their wamp suddenly stopped working and after that they found out other apps have had update which caused wamp stop working
Disclaimer: I have no offense w/ Zone Alarm, NOD32, or any other apps and really want you guys can find a very good settings that help your wamp working w/ your favorite antivirus/firewalls; thus, this is just a friendly reminder ;-)

Hey guys

THIS SOLVED IT FOR ME
---------------------

Just if anyone is looking for a different solution to having WAMP's LOCALHOST & 127.0.0.1 BOTH work.

I have tried everything (literally) and nothing worked, UNTILL...I downloaded the apache addon 2.2.3 from the WAMP website.

Where Wookiee where???? Well... relax chill out. Follow these instructions and see if they help you.

1) [www.wampserver.com]
- click that link
- yes sorry guys, you have to click a couple of times

2) Scroll down
- OMG, no one said anything about scrolling!!!
- Find "Download Apache Addons" (nasty but effective yellow button (this is 14 march 2012, don't blame me if its green all a sudden)

3) Click it
-

3) Click it
- Yes, clicking is very effective if you want to resolve issues!

4) Wait for the popup to appear
- Oh get on with it already!!

5) Click a later version of Apache
- Where bloody hell?? Just scroll down in the popup, to the left bottom of the popup
- I selected apache 2.2.3 (why? because it was one version later than the one that came with WAMP)

6) Wait for the external link to appear
- Waiting waiting oh there it is!!

7) Save the file
- No comments here

8) Run the file
- Yes just install it already

9) Click the little WAMP icon in your system tray
- That little area next to your date, skype (yes you CAN have skype too) etc...

10) Go to Apache > Version > 2.2.3
- Click it
- You might have to restart your wamp, but i didnt have to
- Remember to CLOSE your browsers, re-open them, oh my, might even have to clear your cache.

Now BOTH [127.0.0.1] AND [localhost] works in Opera, IE8, Firefox

Don't thank me if this works, just go get a drink, think of something corny to reply with.

Obviously this clearly means that all the host file changes, config file changes etc... mentioned in all the fixes was not the ONLY issue, the issue was with Apache 2.2.21

Wookiee out

I have been looking for awhile at all these solutions and nothing worked for me. In a way I guess it was dumb of me, but I still found only one other place where someone mentioned it, and nothing here.

I have SQL Server installed on my machine and services start up which use localhost. I stopped all of these services under services.msc, restarted all services in Wamp, and then the icon went green (a beautiful moment), and it works! Hope this helps someone else. I am sure if you have any other program such as SQL Server where you may have set it up to use localhost, you may encounter this problem. For me, I am too new at this to have realized that immediately.

If the wampmanager icon is not GREEN then one of the services ( Apache/MySQL ) has not started properly.

How to tell which service is not running if the wampmanager icon is orange.

Left click the wampmanager icon to reveal the menu-> Apache -> Service
If the Start/Resume service menu is Green then Apache IS NOT running.

Left click the wampmanager icon to reveal the menu-> MySQL -> Service
If the Start/Resume service menu is Green then MySQL IS NOT running.

If Apache is the service that is not running it is normally, but not always, because something else has captured port 80.

Now do,
Left click the wampmanager icon to reveal the menu-> Apache -> Service -> Test port 80
This will launch a command window and display some information about what, if anything is using port 80.

Whatever it is should be re-configured to not use port 80 or uninstalled if you are not using it.

If port 80 is not the problem look for errors in the appropriate error log ( use the wamp manager menus to view the error logs )

If these do not exists or show no errors then also check the Windows Event Viewer
Start -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer
And look in the 'Windows Logs' -> Application' section accessed from the menu on the left of the dialog for error messages from Apache and or MySQL.

IN THE WAMP SERVER ICON ON THE TASK BAR,CLICK THEN SELECT APACHE->httpd.conf

IN THE NOTEPAD , CLICK EDIT-> REPLACE , FIND WHAT: 80 & REPLACE WITH: 8080 AND CLICK REPLACE ALL.

AND SAVE THE NOTEPAD. AND EXIT THE WAMP.

AGAIN START WAMP, AND OPEN A BOWSER TYPE: localhost:8080.

YOU CAN ACCESS LOCALHOST ..

Hi AJMAL,

Dont SHOUT we are not deaf !!!!!

Also if a blocked port 80 is your problem its probably IIS and or SQL Server. If you are not using it/them uninstall it/them.

If you are, disable it/them while developing on Apache.

Much better idea than using a non standard port number as that causes other issues down the line/
