Think question was misunderstood, i just want to be able basically to copy my wamp folder to my laptop, so I can work on my project when not on my desktop, not when they are networked

you can install a copy of wamp on both computers...

this is the only way

you need a server on both computers..
to run any webpages

the folder www then could be synced so wen they are on same network the both get updated..

but remember msql databases are stored somewhere else and they can not be synced while either server isrunning, if u try it u will corrupt both copies.

if you explain the exact situation then im sure there is a way yo solve it differently.

where will. your laptop be when u wanna use it? will it have internet access?

ok make sure server is shut down wen u do this. as each table has 3 files- two which wont copy while server is running.

thats all you need to do

Actually, it has a easy way to resolve it by putting wamp on usb stick and also google for some free sync soft to put on usb stick as well; then, if you have some files change in desktop, just use free sync soft to update those files on usb stick, and with wamp on usb stick, you can work on your project(s) on any other desktop/laptop no matter it's xp or vista ;-)

It just a suggestion, but if he really just want to copy once, then just google for some free sync soft and save on usb stick then just update files b/w desktop and laptop ;-)

Hi

I have this issue also. I have a desktop and a laptop. At the moment I have to zip up the website files and export the DB then unzip and import the DB on the laptop, then back again. Its a real pain.

So I was wondering if WAMP could be installed on both machines, then have the localhost directory set to the USB stick drive. This would work wouldn't it? You just swap the USB around and WAMP will use the files on there everytime.

The only problem I see is with the database. Can WAMP be configured to have the MySQL database and phpmyadmin on the USB stick too?

OR would it be better at install time choose the USB stick to install it. Then when you run WAMP on both machines it will run it from the USB stick and so this is where the database would be.

Thanks

u cud install it onto the stick....= then just move it around to each pc... but there are some regiesdty settings needed on both computers for it to work.

Hi,

Isn't MySQL replication designed for this type of operation? See [dev.mysql.com].

The master and slave servers do not have to be connected all the time.
