"Waiting for localhost..." Localhost never loads

Hi,

I have been using Xampp lite for a few weeks now while I have been building a wordpress blog to test it locally. I did not have any issues with it until today. Whenever I would go to localhost in FF it would just sit there and say "Waiting for localhost...", nothing would appear and it would eventually just say "Done". After troubleshooting for a while with no answers I found Wamp and installed it. Initially it worked great. My site was appearing when I would input [localhost]. Shortly thereafter, I restarted my computer and it started doing the same thing as Xampp did. I have run portchecks over and over making sure the right ones are running when they are supposed to on the right ports. I haven't installed anything new since today and the last time I used Xampp. I have run virus scans, disabled windows firewall, uninstalled Xampp and reinstalled Wamp with no avail. IIS is not running on my machine. I have no idea why it would stop working out of the blue. It does the same thing in IE and Firefox.

I am lost. Please, does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been looking through the forums and have found people having similar problems but none of the suggested solutions have solved it. I've added Win32DisableAcceptEx to the end of the httpd file, triple checked windows firewall including disabling and opening port 80 on it. I do not have Skype (never have), I have Win XP Pro. Also I have not found any clues in the error logs. Here's an example for today. I have verfied over and over again that apache is running on port 80 and mysql is running on that other port.

I have an identical problem to yours. Out of the blue it stopped working. No other services, nothing else tapping in on port 80. It's driving me up the wall here -- please anyone, shed some light on this.

Sorry you're having the same problem. I know how you feel. My computer is about to be thrown out the window. I'm still trying different things. If I find a solution I'll definitely post it here for you. And I would appreciate it if you did the same. Until then, I hope someone can help...

You may want to run tcpview (first google hit, microsoft) to see if you got anything else running on port 80?

Right, I just reinstalled it once more, making sure I hit uninstall services in the wamp folder, then uninstall wamp and finally removing the wamp folder. It works again.

I didn't know about that but I checked it out and I don't see anything referring to port 80. I do have the apache running and it doesn't show up although mysql does. But, when I run the Xampp portcheck it says xampp is running the Apache on 80 and 443 like i always did when it was working.

I don't know...I know my way around a computer pretty well but not this well...

But, when I run the Xampp portcheck it says xampp is running the Apache on 80 and 443
I'd like to know if you're running both wamp and xampp on the same machine?

I have the same problem. I tried running tcpview and tcpvcon and both crashed. Tcpvcon showed ntdll.dll as the second module behind tcpvcon.exe in the expanded crash data. It crashed whether or not Apache was running. (I actually exited the WAMP console and made sure the apache service was not running, and tcpv... still crashed!)

Did you guys install any soft recently? I mean, no matter direct or indirect; direct means you run executive file, and indirect means you just update something either through soft or browser

Are you kidding? Yes, of course! I've been installing, uninstalling, reinstalling Apache, Xitami, MySQL, Apache again... I checked the revision number of ntdll.dll and it seems my version is up-to-date. I pinged localhost and 127.0.0.1 and my laptop by its name and that worked just fine.

I'm befuddled and getting worn out (day 3)...

When it first stopped working in Xampp I installed Wamp without uninstalling Xampp, but always had one or the other turned off. Since, then I have only had one of them installed at any particular time.

yfastud - nothing at all. Mind though, reinstalling again (and again) did do the trick for me. What remains issue is defining virtual hosts brings it down on its knees. (But I'm fine for now / don't want to hijack the thread with this.) Thanks for responding and good luck sbarry

It means they're both in the same machine. Anyway, after uninstall, did you clean up their registries before reinstall? Registries for wamp are wampapache and wampmysql, but I don't know registries for xampp

Not to my knowledge...I know I didn't install anything directly. I thought maybe I picked up a virus through email. Thats when I ran the virus scan and I did have viruses which I removed/repaired.

I also considered perhaps I got some kind of spyware and/or adware that was conflicting. I have run scans for that too, found some, and removed them. Still didn't work.

I also have done several registry scans/repairs as well. That has not worked either.
